The Delhi government has made major announcements regarding public transport, drainage, clean energy and pollution control in its Budget 2025-26. This budget has given special emphasis on transport, waterlogging, electricity and environmental protection. This is an important step towards making Delhi a smart, green and modern city, which will ensure better transport, clean air, uninterrupted electricity and relief from waterlogging for its residents.

Budget 2025: 5,000 More Electric Buses to Hit Delhi Roads

- The Delhi government will add over 5,000 new electric buses by 2025-26, making Delhi’s e-bus fleet the second-largest in the world.
- Rapid progress will be made on three key routes of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4, with a budget allocation of ₹2,929.66 crore. These routes include Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block, Inderlok-Indraprastha, and Rithala-Bawana-Narela-Nathupur (Kundli).
- To strengthen the city’s transport infrastructure, ₹12,952 crore has been allocated, with ₹1,000 crore designated for urban transport projects funded by the central government.
Budget 2025: Relief from Flooding and Waterlogging
- Every monsoon, Delhi faces severe waterlogging, leading to flood-like situations. To provide a permanent solution, a budget of ₹603 crore has been allocated.
- Under the “Flood Control Drainage Remodeling Plan,” ₹150 crore will be invested to enhance the water-carrying capacity of drains, preventing waterlogging during heavy rains.
- Cleaning and desilting of open reservoirs will be carried out to aid flood control measures.
- Advanced machinery will be procured to accelerate flood and waterlogging control efforts.
Budget 2025: 24×7 Power Supply for Every Home & Promotion of Solar Energy
- A budget of ₹3,847 crore has been allocated to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply to every household in Delhi.
- The Delhi government will soon sign an agreement with the Central Government’s ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’, under which households in Delhi will receive a subsidy of up to ₹78,000.
- Under the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity – State Top-Up’ scheme, ₹50 crore has been allocated to install solar panels on 2.3 lakh rooftops over the next three years.
- To eliminate overhead electrical wires and improve safety, ₹100 crore has been set aside for underground cabling, ensuring a more secure and organized power infrastructure.
Strict Measures to Curb Pollution
- ₹506 crore allocated for air & water pollution control and waste management.
- ₹300 crore under the ‘Pollution Control & Emergency Measures’ scheme to accelerate environmental improvement projects.
- ₹20 crore for the ‘Delhi Parks & Gardens Society’, providing financial assistance to RWAs, NGOs, and societies to maintain green spaces.
- 70 lakh trees to be planted across Delhi to expand green cover and reduce pollution.
- 6 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (CAAQM) stations to provide real-time air pollution data for better decision-making.
- 32 Water Quality Monitoring Stations to be set up for the first time to track pollution levels in the Yamuna River and Delhi’s drains.
- An Integrated Command & Control Center (ICCC) will be established to use data-driven solutions for environmental challenges.
