The 2024 Lok Sabha election, is all set to begin. Similar to the 2019 general elections, the voting will take place in seven phases.
The Election Commission of India had announced the dates for Lok Sabha and four assembly elections on March 16, 2024.
The first voting of this election will take place on April 19, where voting will take place on a total of 102 seats in 21 states.
Seven Phases of Election
As informed above, the Lok Sabha Election 2024 will take place in seven phases. Voting for the first phase will begin on 19 April. The second phase will take place on 26 April, the third on May 7, followed by the fourth phase on May 13. The fifth phase is scheduled for May 20, the sixth is on 25 May, and the last phase i.e. the seventh one will take place on 1 June.
The results for this will be disclosed on 4th June 2024.
Campaigning for the First Phase Banned
The Election Commission has banned the campaign for the first phase from Wednesday itself with candidates closing up their campaigns for eight parliamentary seats.
The 48 hours of the non-campaigning period is the most critical time in the process as it gives a reflective pause to the voters.
Comparison between 2019 and 2024 election
If we at the 2019 elections, in its first phase voting was conducted for a total of 91 seats. In which BJP had captured 31 seats, 51 were captured by other parties and Congress was able to bring only 9 seats to its account.

The following states and union territories will have elections in the first phase: Arunachal Pradesh (2 seats), Assam (5 seats), Bihar (4 seats), Chhattisgarh (1 seat), Madhya Pradesh (6 seats), Maharashtra (5 seats), Manipur (2 seats), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1 seat), Nagaland (1 seat), Rajasthan (12 seats), Sikkim (1 seat), Tamil Nadu (39 seats), Tripura (1 seat), Uttar Pradesh (8 seats), Uttarakhand (5 seats), West Bengal (3 seats), Andaman and Nicobar (1 seat), Jammu and Kashmir (1 seat), Lakshadweep (1 seat), and Puducherry (1 seat).
