Must read

The BJP has so far announced candidates for 67 out of the 90 assembly seats in the Haryana elections. However, Babita Phogat has not yet been given a ticket. In response, her father, Mahavir Phogat, expressed support for the BJP, stating that the party does not give tickets to everyone. He mentioned that the party’s decisions are made after careful consideration, and therefore, their decision should be accepted.

Babita Phogat’s 2019 Election Performance

In the 2019 Haryana assembly elections, Babita Phogat contested from the Charkhi Dadri seat on a BJP ticket. She faced a significant defeat, securing only 24,786 votes and finishing in third place. Independent candidate Sombir Sangwan won the seat. It is likely that the BJP did not give her a ticket this time due to her previous poor performance and instead has nominated Sunil Sangwan, son of former Cooperation Minister and two-time MLA from Dadri, Satpal Sangwan. Sunil Sangwan, who was a jail superintendent, is set to contest his first election after resigning from his post.

Mahavir Phogat’s Discontent with Vinesh

Mahavir Phogat is unhappy with Vinesh Phogat’s entry into politics. He remarked that Vinesh made a hasty decision to enter politics and suggested that while she might become a politician, she will never be remembered as an Olympic medalist. He added that if Vinesh had waited for the 2028 Olympics, she would likely have won a medal. Politics, he noted, can be pursued after 2028 as politicians are often forgotten after five years, but an Olympic medalist is always remembered. He criticized her for leaving the dream of her countrymen unfulfilled.

Sanjay Singh’s Allegations Against Congress

It should be noted that Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress party on September 6 and has been nominated as a candidate from the Jind district’s Julana seat. In response, Indian Wrestling Federation President Sanjay Singh alleged that the recent wrestlers’ protest was orchestrated by Congress. He criticized Congress, stating that after joining the party, baseless accusations are being made, and suggested that the government will soon be blamed for not providing support. He claimed that a full script is being prepared for such allegations against the central government.
