Mahindra & Mahindra’s Thar Rocks has become the first body-on-frame SUV to receive a 5-star rating for both adult and child safety from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP or BNCAP).
BNCAP today (November 14) released the crash test results of three Mahindra SUVs. These include Mahindra Thar Rocks, XUV 3XO, and XUV 400EV. All three SUVs have received a 5-star rating for safety in the crash test.
Mahindra Thar Rocks: Adult Occupant Protection Crash Test
In the frontal impact test, the Thar Rocks scored an impressive 15.09 out of 16 points while traveling at a speed of 64 km/h. The evaluation highlighted the good protection provided for the head, neck, and thighs of both the driver and co-passenger. At the same time, the safety of the entire body of the co-passenger also got strong protection.The report describes the driver’s chest and legs as receiving satisfactory protection.
During the side impact test, the SUV faced a speed of 50 km/h, and in the pole impact test, it encountered a speed of 29 km/h, achieving a perfect score of 16 out of 16. The tests demonstrated that the SUV effectively protects the driver’s head, chest, waist, and hips, providing good safety in both the side impact and pole impact scenarios.
Based on the performance of these three tests, the Thar Rocks got 31.09 points out of 32 in the adult protection category, which is enough for a 5-star safety rating. With this, the Thar Rocks has become the first body-on-frame SUV to get a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP, which is a petrol/diesel engine car that has received such a high score. The crash test of the MX3 and AX5L variants of the Thar Rocks was conducted.
Mahindra Thar Rocks: Child Occupant Protection Crash Test
In this test, researchers installed dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child in the Thar Rocks using a child ISOFIX seat. The off-roader scored full in the front and side-impact tests. In the child protection category, the Thar Rocks scored 45 out of 49 points, which is enough to get a 5-star crash test rating in this category.
