Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the 5-door version of its most popular off-road SUV Thar on August 15. Earlier, the company officially revealed the front look of the car on the social media platform X.
The shared image shows the new front grille of Thar Rocks and both LED projector headlamps. Its starting price can be around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). In the segment, it will compete with Maruti Jimny and the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha.
The new SUV will come with the traditional boxy profile of Thar
The design of the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar SUV will come with a traditional boxy profile like the current 3-door Thar, but any changes will be seen in it. The new teaser image shows many upgrades of the Thar car which make it different from the three-door Thar. The fog lights and turn indicators are placed in the same place as the 3-door Thar, but their design has been changed.
Apart from this, the upcoming SUV will get a new design grille with six-vertical double-slats, round-shaped advanced LED projector headlamps, C-shaped integrated LED DRL in the headlamps, vertical taillamps, new design silver bumpers, dual-tone ORVMs, new alloy wheels, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and a flat roof.
These new features will be available in the 5-door Thar
The seats in the cabin of the latest car have been given a beige colour. Apart from this, many premium features includinga panoramic sunroof, a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display of the same size, connected car technology, front armrest, a new steering wheel, automatic climate control, ceiling-mounted speakers and Harman Kardon sound system are expected to be given.
For safety, 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold and descent control and 360-degree camera can be given in Thar. It may also include ADAS technology like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking.
5-door Mahindra Thar: Expected engine options
Talking about performance, the 5-door Thar can get two engine options. It can have a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit and a 2.0-litre medallion turbocharged petrol unit like the 3-door Thar.
Power and torque outputs may be different from the 3-door Thar, as the upcoming 5-door Thar will be much larger. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. Apart from this, the SUV will get the option of both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.
