Tahawwur Rana Case: Tahawwur Rana, one of the alleged masterminds of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is being brought back to India. The government has begun preparations for his trial and appointed advocate Narender Mann, known for his strong grasp on criminal law, as special public prosecutor for a period of three years.
According to a notification issued by the Home Ministry, Mann has been appointed under Section 15(1) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act and Section 18(8) of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS).
Tahawwur Rana Case: What Does the Home Ministry Notification Say?
This appointment has been made specifically for NIA Case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI and related matters. According to the notification, the appointment will be valid for a period of three years. However, if the trial ends before the period of three years, the period of appointment will be considered till the end of the trial.
Narender Mann: A Well-Known Legal Name in Delhi
Narender Mann is a well-known figure among the legal fraternity in Delhi. With over 30 years of legal practice, he runs his office in the capital’s Hauz Khas area. Mann has previously worked as a public prosecutor and has handled several cases for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to sources, his appointment as special public prosecutor in this high-profile case was made on the basis of his extensive experience and strong track record.
Tahawwur Rana to Be Held in Tihar Jail
According to initial information, he will be kept in Tihar Jail. Sources say that initially he will be in NIA custody, where legal formalities will be completed. The trial against him may begin in the special NIA court in Delhi.
