NZ vs ENG: Test Cricket is generally a slow-paced game, and it is not played like the One-Day Internationals and T20 International format. In Test matches, the batters have to show a lot of guts, determination, and patience to deal with the pacers and spin bowlers.
But things have changed in this modern era. Now the batters don’t not waste time to score runs. Nowadays, the batters look for quick runs and they want to entertain themselves and viewers on the ground by hitting flurry of fours and sixes, which wasn’t the case before.
In earlier days, the batters used to grind their innings in Test matches and progressed slowly and steadily in the match. But now because of the T20 league and the shortest format, sixes are on demand in the red ball form of the game as well. Tim Southee will retire with 98 sixes in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
The former of New Zealand is the fourth highest six hitter in the red ball matches in the overall list. In the history of red ball matches, there are just three batters who have amassed 100 and more maximums in the traditional format like Test Cricket. Here Are The Names Of Those Batsmen –
1. Ben Stokes –
The current skipper of England and a brilliant fast bowling all-rounder, Benjamin Andrew Stokes is a magnificent batter, bowler and even a captain of England. Stokesy is the red ball skipper of England and a vital member of any team in the world.
He holds the record of smashing the most sixes in the red ball form of the game. Ben Stokes has smashed 133 sixes in 110 matches and 198 innings, which is the most by any player and he is an active player to be mentioned in the list and Stokesy can also add more maximums in his kitty.
2. Brendon McCullum –
The former skipper of New Zealand Brendon McCullum was a terrific wicket keeper batter. Baz was the hard hitter of a cricket ball and he also fancied his chances to send the ball out of the park in whichever format he played. In the red ball form of the game, McCullum is the batsman who has scored the most sixes. BAZ has 107 maximums to his name in 101 red ball matches and 176 innings.
3. Adam Gilchrist –
This list of top three ends with another terrific wicketkeeper batter called Adam Gilchrist, who played for the Aussies in all the three forms of the game and he also played the IPL just the two above mentioned batters. Gilly was also hard hitter of white and red cricket ball.
Just like Stokesy and BAZ, Gilly also loved to send the ball outside the stadium many times. Adam always delt with sixes in his career. He used to open the innings in the white ball formats and bat in the lower middle order of Australia in the red ball format. From 96 Test matches and 137 innings in Test Cricket, Adam Gilchirst has smashed a century of sixes (100).
