No-Confidence Motion in the Winter Session

The INDIA Alliance moved the motion citing dissatisfaction with Jagdeep Dhankhar’s conduct as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The opposition has accused him of bias and raised concerns over his approach to handling parliamentary proceedings.

Support from 70 MPs Across Parties

The no-confidence motion, filed under Article 67(B) of the Constitution, has been signed by 70 Members of Parliament. The signatories include leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Samajwadi Party, and other smaller parties, showcasing a united front by the opposition.

Repeated Dissatisfaction with Dhankhar’s Leadership

This is not the first instance of discontent against Jagdeep Dhankhar. During the Monsoon Session in August, the opposition initiated a signature campaign against him but refrained from taking action at the time. Many leaders of the INDIA bloc have expressed dissatisfaction, accusing Dhankhar of adopting a partisan approach.

SP and TMC Extend Support

Despite maintaining some distance from Congress, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) have backed the no-confidence motion. Their Rajya Sabha members have also signed the motion, signaling broader opposition unity.

Congress Accuses Dhankhar of Bias

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized Dhankhar, alleging that his actions undermine democracy. Congress MP Digvijaya Singh echoed this sentiment, accusing Dhankhar of facilitating disruptions by the ruling party while disregarding the opposition’s demands.

Rajya Sabha Proceedings Adjourned

Amidst these developments, the Rajya Sabha’s proceedings have been adjourned until December 10, leaving the fate of the no-confidence motion uncertain for now.
