16 Pakistani soldiers have been killed and 8 others are seriously injured in a terrorist attack on a security post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of northwestern Pakistan. Pakistan Taliban has claimed responsibility for this attack.
Terrorist violence along Pakistan’s western border has been on the rise since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Islamabad has accused the Taliban government of failing to root out militants who cross the border to launch attacks on Pakistan.
Attack Targeting Security Checkpoint
Security sources said that on Saturday morning a security checkpoint was targeted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 16 soldiers were killed and eight others were injured in this attack. Sources said that the terrorists attacked the Lita Sar checkpoint in Makeen, located in South Waziristan district bordering Afghanistan.
This is the biggest attack on security forces in recent months. This attack has happened just a few days after the Pakistani security forces, based on intelligence, launched an operation in the Sararogha area of the same district in which they killed two terrorists.
Continuous Terrorist Attacks in the Region
Law enforcement personnel acted on intelligence about the presence of militants and killed two of them. Earlier, two militants were arrested during an operation in the first week of December.
South Waziristan is one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal areas where the Pakistan Army has been fighting militants belonging to banned outfits for over a decade.
