Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over Sunita Williams’ return to Earth after spending nine months in space. Congratulating Crew-9, PM Modi shared a post on X, calling Sunita Williams an icon.
Welcoming Sunita, PM Modi wrote on X, “Welcome, Crew-9! Earth missed you. This mission has been a true test of grit, courage and the boundless human spirit. Sunita Williams and the Crew-9 astronauts have once again shown us the true meaning of perseverance. Their unwavering determination in the face of the vast unknown will continue to inspire millions.”
He further added, “This mission pushes the boundaries of human potential, encouraging us to dream big and have the courage to turn those dreams into reality.”
After 9-Month Space Stay, Sunita Williams & Butch Wilmore Finally Return
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore returned to Earth on Wednesday (Indian time) morning after spending nine months in space. Both astronauts left on June 5, 2024 aboard Boeing’s new Starliner crew vehicle and planned to return within a week. However, due to a malfunction in the spacecraft, they had to stay in space for a long time.
Upon their return, Sunita and Butch Wilmore have received congratulations from around the world.
Sunita Williams’ Connection to India
Sunita is an American astronaut of Indian origin. This was her third space flight and she has spent a total of 608 days in space so far.
She was born on September 19, 1965 in Euclid, Ohio. His father Deepak Pandya is from Jhulasan in Mehsana district of Gujarat. Sunita Williams also holds the record for the most spacewalks by a female astronaut.
Sunita Williams has visited India at least three times, including in 2007 and 2013. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to Sunita, calling her “Bharat Ki Beti”. PM Modi also invited her to visit India.
