PM Narendra Modi – Data Abroad Is 10 Times More Expensive

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the eighth edition of India Mobile Congress today i.e. on 15 October in New Delhi. During this, he said that today the price of mobile data in other countries is ten times more expensive than in India. India has only one mission – to connect the world.

More than 120 countries around the world are participating in this tech event. More than 400 exhibitors and around 900 startups have participated. Tech innovations were shown to PM Modi at the IMC 2024 exhibition. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Sindhiya accompanied PM Narendra Modi.

PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2024, which is being convened by the International Telecommunication Union for the first time in India and the Asia-Pacific region. More than 3,000 delegates from more than 190 countries have participated.

PM Narendra Modi said- 120 crore mobile users in India, 6 points of speech

  • In the last ten years, the optical fibre laid by India is eight times the distance between the Moon and the Earth. Two years ago, we launched 5G. Today every district is connected to 5G. Now we are also working rapidly on 6G technology.
  • Reforms in the telecom sector have led to a decline in internet data prices. Today the price of mobile data in India is 12 cents per GB. In other countries, one GB of data is ten times more expensive. Today Indians consume an average of 30 GB of data every month.
  • Phones could not be cheap unless we manufactured them in India. In 2014, there were only two mobile manufacturing units. Today it is more than 200. Earlier we used to import smartphones from abroad. Now, we make six times more phones in India.
  • Giving examples of Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and UPI, PM Narendra Modi said that ONDC will bring a revolution in the digital commerce sector. Modi said we saw during COVID-19 how our digital platforms have made life easier.
  • Today India is one of the most happening countries in the world in terms of telecom and its related technologies. There are 120 crore i.e. 1200 million mobile phone users in India. There are 95 crore i.e. 950 million internet users in India. More than 40% of the world’s real-time digital transactions take place in India.
  • From the ancient Silk Route to today’s technology route, India has had only one mission – to connect the world and open new paths. In such a situation, the partnership between WTSA and IMC is also an inspiring and wonderful message. When local and global meet, the whole world benefits from it. This is our goal.

Sindhiya said – DBT transfers show the power of telecom

  • At the event, Jyotiraditya Scindia said- ‘Some of the best examples of the power of telecom are DBT or Direct Benefit Transfer Schemes. These schemes transfer more than Rs 1 crore in direct cash to people’s bank accounts daily.
  • Scindia said that mobile connections in India have increased from 904 million to 1.16 billion today. There are 924 million users of broadband connectivity in India. OFC in India was earlier only 11 million route km, today it is 41 million route km.
  • He said- By the middle of next year, we will start 4G service across India. We have had the fastest 5G rollout in India. 98 per cent of districts and 90 per cent of villages were covered in just 21 months.

Akash Ambani asked for an incentive for the data centre

  • AI will change every aspect of our lives. AI is important to realize our dream of a developed India by 2047. Therefore, India should adopt AI immediately.
  • We urge the government to expedite updating the 2020 draft of the data centre policy. Indian data should remain in data centres in India.
  • Indian companies willing to set up AI and ML data centres should get all necessary incentives including power consumption.

Mittal said that in the next 18 months, the entire country will be connected to a 5G network

  • Airtel Chairman Bharti Mittal said- PM Modi had asked the Department of Telecommunications and operators to gear up and launch 5G as fast as possible.
  • I am happy to share that India has launched the fastest 5G network in the country, not only in urban areas but in all villages and rural areas.
  • More networks are being rolled out every day, every month. Within the next 12-18 months, every part of the country will be connected to a very powerful 5G network.

Birla said – public has to be protected from spam messages

Aditya Birla Chairperson Kumar Mangalam Birla said- As networks are growing, we have to protect the public from fraudulent calls and spam messages. With the support of government and regulatory bodies, Vodafone Idea is making significant progress in addressing this threat.
