PM Modi is on a visit to Brunei today. He has reached Darussalam on the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. PM Modi’s visit to Brunei is the first bilateral visit of any Indian Prime Minister.

After Brunei, PM Modi will go to Singapore between 4-5 September. He will reach there on the invitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. But the most talked about is the PM’s visit to Brunei.

Why Is It So Special?

There are many reasons why Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brunei is being discussed so much, first that Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister to visit this place and secondly that many important issues can be discussed in this meeting. Like

1 Semiconductor cooperation: PM Modi will discuss the possibility of increasing cooperation in the semiconductor sector in talks with the Sultan there.

2. Bilateral trade and investment: India has invested about $270 million in the hydrocarbon sector of Brunei. During this visit, the PM will hold talks with the Sultan on increasing investment to meet the shortage of natural gas.

3. Hydrocarbon and natural gas import: India imports hydrocarbons from Brunei. Currently, India is insisting on increasing the supply of natural gas, so it is believed that PM Modi will have a special discussion with the Sultan on this issue during his visit.

4. Talk on the situation in Myanmar: PM Modi will also discuss the situation in Myanmar with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

Who is the Sultan of Brunei?

The name of the Sultan of Brunei is Hassanal Bolkiah. He is counted among the richest people in the world. He is known all over the world for his luxurious life. His palace is spread over several acres and it is so luxurious that it has gold basins and the dome of the palace is decorated with 22 carat gold.
