Nepal’s famous photo journalist and mountaineer Purnima Shrestha has created history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, three times in a single climbing season.
Kathmandu: Nepal’s famous photojournalist and mountaineer Purnima Shrestha has created history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, thrice in a single climbing season.
She climbed Everest for the first time in 2018, after which she again climbed it three times in a row and registered her name in the pages of history.

Pemba Sherpa, the expedition director of Eight K Expeditions, which organized the expedition, said that Purnima had climbed the 8848.86 meter high peak for the first time in this season on May 12. After this, on May 19, she again reached the summit with Pasang Sherpa and on Saturday at 5:50 am she reached the summit for the third time.
Purnima tells that she visited Everest Base Camp to cover the Everest Marathon in 2017. This incident attracted her to climb mountains. After which she climbed Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters) in the same year and successfully climbed the world’s highest peak the very next year.
Nima Doma Sherpa who climbed Everest said “This is the first time in the history of mountaineering that a climber has climbed Everest three times in the same season.”
Purnima has conquered may other formidable peaks apart from Everest, including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Mount K2. Kanchenjunga, Manaslu, Makalu and Lhotse,
Purnima plays dual role as a mountaineer and photojournalist. This art of her’s has inspired many people not only in Nepal but also all over the world. Her amazing achievement adds to the great work of Nepalese mountaineers who always try to do better in climbing high mountains.
