After coming to power in Rajasthan, the Bhajan Lal government is continuously changing the names of the schemes started by the Gehlot government. In the latest move, the government has changed the name of Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme to Mukhyamantri Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme.
According to the official order, this scheme provides 100 days of employment to unemployed persons in urban areas in Rajasthan.
The previous Gehlot government launched this scheme in September 2022. Following the model of rural programmes, the Gehlot government extended this initiative to urban unemployed individuals, allowing them to make job cards under this scheme and secure 100 days of employment for financial assistance.
The Gehlot government designed this scheme based on the framework of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Rajasthan: Schemes Renamed by the Government
After coming to power, the Bhajan Lal government has renamed several schemes. On January 5, 2024, the government renamed the Indira Rasoi Yojana to Annapurna Rasoi Yojana and increased the quantity of the food provided, from 150 grams to a larger portion.
Additionally, the Chiranjeevi Health Scheme was merged with the central Ayushman Scheme and renamed the Chief Minister Ayushman Scheme, with a reduction in the benefits offered under this scheme.
The government also renamed the Mukhyamantri Bal Gopal Yojana, which provided milk powder to children from classes 1 to 8 in government schools, to Pannadhay Bal Gopal Yojana.
Furthermore, the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence was renamed Swami Vivekanand Scholarship for Academic Excellence, removing Rajiv Gandhi’s name.
The Rajiv Gandhi Jal Swavlamban Yojana was renamed to Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Yojana.
Lastly, the Chief Minister Senior Citizens Pilgrimage Scheme was renamed to Pandit Deendayal Senior Citizens Pilgrimage Scheme.
