Animal Attendant Exam: The absence rate of candidates appearing for government job examinations in Rajasthan is continuously increasing, creating challenges for examination conducting bodies like Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSMSSB) and Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). From December 1 to December 3, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board conducted the Animal Attendant Exam, during which over 7 lakh candidates were absent.
Out of the 17,63,897 candidates who registered for the exam, only 10,52,566 appeared, while 7,11,331 were absent, constituting 40% of the total applicants.
Only 59.67% Attend Exam for 5,934 Posts
The exam, held in six shifts, saw the highest attendance of 64% on the first day, while the attendance dropped to 51% in the last shift on the last day. The overall attendance rate for the exam stood at 59.67%.
Despite accommodating a large number of candidates by expanding the exam centres to all 33 districts instead of the usual 27, the turnout was disappointing.
These vacancies were announced for 5,934 posts, highlighting the significant number of missed opportunities.
Reasons for Absenteeism
During the Congress government, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot implemented the “one state, one registration” policy for competitive examinations in state government jobs.
Under this, candidates had to register once, which allowed them to fill the examination form for a lifetime. Due to this, even those people were filling the form who were not serious about the exam.
Although the organizing bodies make arrangements according to the number of candidates, government money is being wasted due to low attendance.
The transport department, which makes the arrangements, is also in loss. Due to absenteeism despite filling the form, both the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission have written a letter to the state government requesting to abolish the one-time registration rule.
