SBI Digital Services Were Down for 8 Hours in the Country Due to Annual Closing, Users Faced Problems in Using UPI-Online Services

SBI Digital Services: UPI and online banking services of the country’s largest government bank SBI are down for 8 hours across the country. According to Downdetector, users faced problems in using online banking services since around 8 am. During this time more than 5,000 complaints were registered. However, some users are still facing problems in mobile banking.

However, SBI had informed through X post at 12 noon that due to annual closing activity, online banking services will not run from 1 pm to 4 pm on April 1. Users will have to use ATM and UPI Lite for money withdrawal and transfer.

SBI Digital Services: 64% users had problems in mobile banking

SBI Digital Services: According to Downdetector, 64% users faced problems in mobile banking service. Apart from this, 32% users had problems in transferring funds. 4% users have complained of problems in ATM service.

SBI Digital Services: UPI service was down across the country on March 26

SBI Digital Services: Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service was down for about two and a half hours in the country on March 26. During this time, people had problems transferring money from apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. Apart from this, UPI and net banking services of more than 10 banks were also affected. Users were also not able to login access to apps and net banking.

The reason for this technical glitch has not been revealed. According to Downdetector, users faced the most problems in making payments through UPI between 7 and 9:30 pm on Wednesday evening. During this time more than 23,000 complaints were registered.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said, ‘Users have faced temporary technical problems, due to which UPI was partially interrupted. Now these problems have been resolved. The system has become stable.’

Payment apps of more than 10 banks were affected

SBI Digital Services: Apart from payment apps, services of more than 10 banks including SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were affected. PhonePe services started after about 2 hours. However, some users were facing problems even later.

UPI is operated by NCPI 

SBI Digital Services: In India, the operation of RTGS and NEFT payment systems is with RBI. Systems like IMPS, RuPay, UPI are operated by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). The government had made a zero-charge framework mandatory for UPI transactions from January 1, 2020.

How UPI works?

SBI Digital Services: For UPI service, you have to create a virtual payment address. After this it has to be linked to the bank account. After this, there is no need to remember your bank account number, bank name or IFSC code etc. The payer simply processes the payment request based on your mobile number.

If you have his UPI ID (e-mail ID, mobile number or Aadhaar number) then you can easily send money through your smartphone. Not only money but you can also make utility bill payments, online shopping and purchases through Unified Payment Interface system.
