SL vs IND: India recently toured Sri Lanka for a limited over series. Under Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue played a three-match T20 International series and whitewashed the home side by a margin of 3-0. Despite being high on confidence, India didn’t perform that well in the fifty overs under a skipper who won the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Some of the stars who were in that ICC mega event of the shortest format were also included in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, India failed to win even a single ODI match in this series under Rohit Sharma’s leadership and India lost the series by a margin of 0-2 and that too after 27 years.
Now Sri Lanka will play against England and India is on a long vacation. The Men in Blue will be back in action from 19th September 2024, when Sharma Ji and his men will play a series of two red ball matches versus Bangladesh when they will tour India next month. Today we shall reveal when India played a Test Match on Sri Lanka’s soil. And what was the result of that series?
SL vs IND: It Has Been 7 Years Since The Men In Blue Haven’t Played A Red Ball Match Versus Sri Lanka In Their Island Nation
The Men in Blue have been touring Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series more often. Before this year, India had toured Sri Lanka for a three-match series of the fifty overs and shortest format. In that tour, India won the ODI series under Shikhar Dhawan. But Dhawan became the only Indian skipper to lose a series of the shortest format against the current Asian champions of the T20I format, Sri Lanka.
It has been seven years since India hasn’t played a red ball match or a series versus Sri Lanka in their island nation. India’s last game in the longer version of the game was played in Pallekele from the 12th to 14th August 2017. India won that game by a mammoth margin of an innings 171 runs. Virat Kohli was the Indian skipper then and Hardik Pandya’s lone Test hundred had also come in this series.
