India’s batting was below par and the issues of backend overs bowling in the limited overs format is also a concern for Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir to address in the future. India will have to prepare well for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, where they may play all their games in Sri Lanka. The batters of the Men in Blue struggled on the spinning surfaces in that island nation in this series.

So today, we have listed down the five flop players from Team India in this three-match series of the One Day International form of this gentlemen’s game versus Sri Lanka

1. Virat Kohli –

King Kohli

Before the start of this ODI series, King Kohli had played an amazing knock in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados. Due to his 76-run knock, India managed to post a defendable score. But in this series, the King couldn’t score 30 or more runs. His highest score was 24 runs, which he scored in the 1st ODI and his batting average was a below-par one of 19.33.

2. Mohammed Siraj –

This Indian pace bowler was the one who ripped the whole Sri Lankan batting lineup in the 2023 Asia Cup final, which was played in that island nation last year. Siraj picked up 6 wickets and the Lankans were bundled out for 50 runs and that too inside just 15.2 overs.

But in this series of the one-day international format, Mohammed Siraj was too expensive. He leaked runs in the backend overs which helped the home side, Sri Lanka to make a comeback in all three matches of this fifty overs series. Siraj could manage to pick up just 3 scalps from three matches.

3. KL Rahul –

The Karnataka wicketkeeper batter had got opportunities to bat in the middle order, which is said to be his favourite batting position in the fifty overs format. But in this ODI series, KL managed to score just 32 runs from three games and his average was below Kohli. Rahul had an average of 15.50 in this series.

4. Shubman Gill –

The Prince of Indian Cricket, Shubman Gill is the future star. He led India to win the T20I series versus Zimbabwe after the team lost the opening match. He wasn’t part of the T20 World Cup 2024 side. He had shared two good partnerships with skipper HITMAN Sharma in the first two ODIs.

But Gill couldn’t convert the starts which was why India couldn’t be ahead of those two games. Shubman was the vice-captain of this three-match series. He could manage to muster just 57 runs from these three matches and he had an average of just 19 in this whole series.

5. Shreyas Iyer –

The middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the Indian Premier League 2024 season. But his comeback series with the Men in Blue side wasn’t a great one. He has also been removed from the central contracts of the BCCI for not playing the domestic matches when he was supposed to.

In this series, Iyer got chances in all three games of the One Day International format. He had scored just 38 runs from these three matches. Shreyas failed to use the opportunities to become a hero. India was in a spot of bother in these games. Iyer should have taken India out of trouble by using all his experience.
