In Today’s segment, we shall mention the Tied matches of The Men In Blue’s One Day International format. Let us look at those nine matches of Team India which ended as a Tied contest –

1. India Vs West Indies, 1991 –

This was the first Tied game for India in the fifty-overs format. West Indies and India met in an ODI match at WACA Ground in Perth. The Windies won the toss and bowled first. A collective bowling effort from the West Indies dismantled the whole Indian lineup for just 126 runs in 47.4 overs. Ravi Shastri was the top run-getter for India during this match.

In reply, the Indian bowlers gave a solid fight. The target of 127 runs seemed to an easy one for the batting lineup of the Windies. But the Indian bowlers made a good comeback as they also bundled out West Indies for the same score of 126 runs in 41 overs. For India, Subroto Banerjee picked up three scalps while Javagal Srinath and Kapil Dev picked up two wickets each in this Tied encounter.

2. India Vs Zimbabwe, 1993 –

For the second time, India had a tied contest and this was the first time that Zimbabwe and India ended up on the same score after their fifty overs quota. India batted first and scored 248 runs in their 50 overs. The Men in Blue reached this score because of half-centuries scored by Vinod Kambli, Woorkeri Raman and Sachin Tendulkar.

But this game turned into an exciting finish as Zimbabwe did a good job in this run chase of 249 runs. Zimbabwe’s skipper Andy Flower scored a gusty 56 runs to keep them in the hunt for this target and they also got some cameos from Ali Shah’s 37 runs and Guy Whittall’s 33 runs. But the Indian bowlers held their nerves as the visitors of this match, Zimbabwe was all out on the same score after they completed their fifty overs.

3. India Vs Zimbabwe, 1997 –On This Day: Which Batsmen Has Amassed The Highest Individual Score In The Shortest Format?

This was India’s third tied match overall and their second Tied game against Zimbabwe. These two teams met at Boland Park in Paarl. Zimbabwe batted first and scored a decent total of 236 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted fifty-overs quota. In reply, India’s run chase wasn’t a good one because the Indian batters couldn’t convert their starts into a substantial score.

Saba Karim, Ajay Jadeja, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Azharuddin couldn’t take the team to that target which the Zimbabweans scored. So India also scored the same score of 238 runs. But they were all out in 49.5 overs and this encounter was ended as a Tied contest.

4. India Vs England, 2011 –

This game between India and England was played in the ODI World Cup match of 2011 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India batted first and scored 338 runs in their fifty overs. Sachin Tendulkar scored a fine century and Gambhir alongside Yuvi also slammed a half centuries.

In the run chase of this mammoth score, England’s skipper of that tournament, Sir Andrew Strauss scored 158 runs and Ian Bell scored 69 runs to keep the Indian bowlers at bay. But it was Zaheer Khan who gave India the vital breakthroughs which brought India back into the contest.

However, despite those two crucial wickets, the Men in Blue under Mahendra Singh Dhoni couldn’t restrict England to score 338 runs in their fifty overs. The game ended in a Tie as no team deserved to lose this high-intensity match. Even after 100 overs, both sides scored the same amount of runs.

5. India Vs Sri Lanka, 2012 –

India and Sri Lanka met in Australia for a tri-series in 2012 and one match which was played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide ended in a tie. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 236 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Dinesh Chandimal was the top scorer with 81 runs.

But in reply, India was in the game mainly because of Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni. Gauti scored 91 runs while MSD was not out on 58 runs. India couldn’t win this match. But Mahi Bhai ensured that no team won this encounter as this game was a tied contest because both the teams scored 236 runs and they also lost same number of wickets.

6. India Vs New Zealand, 2014 –

India and New Zealand have been great rivals on the cricket ground. But this match in 2014 at Eden Park in Auckland was the only tied contest played between these two nations. The Kiwis batted first and piled up 314 runs in 50 overs quota. Martin Guptill scored 111 runs and Kane Williamson scored 65 runs to his name.

But in reply, India was in the game mainly because of their lower-order batters who scored half-centuries. MSD scored 50, Ashwin scored 65 and Jaddu was unbeaten on 66 runs. These three players of the Men in Blue took their team to the same score of 314 runs after the completion of the fifty overs.

7. India Vs Afghanistan, 2018 –

This encounter was played in the ODI Asia Cup of 2018 edition in Dubai. MS Dhoni had captained this game for the last time in his glorious career. The Afghans batted first and piled up 252 runs on the board because of Mohammad Shahzad’s 124 runs and Mohammed Nabi’s 64 runs.

In reply, India had a good start. KL Rahul scored 60 and Ambati Rayudu scored 57 runs. But the middle order couldn’t carry forward that start and Afghanistan was back in the game because they picked up regular wickets after a decent opening partnership. The other batters like Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja and Kedar Jadhav failed to convert their starts which was why India ended with the same score of 252 runs after their fifty overs. MSD’s last ODI match as captain ended in a Tie.

8. India Vs West Indies, 2018 –

This game was the second-tied game for India in 2018. West Indies had played an ODI match versus India in Vizag. India batted first and scored 321 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted fifty overs. King Kohli scored 157 runs while Rayudu smashed 73 runs.

In reply, Shai Hope single-handedly kept the visitors in the game during this mammoth run chase. The wicketkeeper batter of West Indies, Shai Hope was unbeaten on 123 runs and he held the one end up when the other wickets fell around him. If Hope would have got the support, then the Windies would have clinched this game. But that wasn’t to be as West Indies ended up with the same score of 321 runs after their 50 overs and this game was a Tied contest.

9. India Vs Sri Lanka, 2024 –

India had won the T20I series versus Sri Lanka and then they had played this tie encounter in Colombo. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 230 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their fifty overs. They reached that score mainly because of Nissanka and Wellalage.

In reply, Rohit and Gill had laid a good foundation. But the middle order didn’t do much and Shivam Dube, who took the game to a touching distance also failed to finish it. When one run was needed in 14 balls, Arshdeep Singh tried to muscle the ball into the standard. But he was out leg before and Sri Lanka was successful in restricting India to the same score of 230 runs.
