SL Vs IND: Sri Lanka has won the three-match series of the One Day International format versus the Men in Blue. After a whitewash in the series of the shortest format, the home side won the fifty-over series by a margin of 2-0. India had their moments in these three matches. But they failed to capitalize on them.
The turning pitches in Sri Lanka weren’t an alien type of conditions for Rohit Sharma and his men. But still, the Indian batters couldn’t chase down the scores in all three ODI games in this series. India is used to the spinning conditions, but due to the middle order, the visitors, India couldn’t win a single fifty-overs game played in this three-match series.
In the 1st match, the Men in Blue came close to winning the game due to Rohit Sharma’s half-century and a late cameo innings from Shivam Dube. Dube Ji took the game where just one run was needed. But he failed to finish the match and Arshdeep Singh tried to be a hero with the ball. Singh had 14 balls to score that run. But he tried to hit a six and was out LBW. That match ended in a Tie.
However, in the last two matches of this three-match series, Sri Lanka outplayed India. Dunith Wellalage was the man of the series for his all-round contribution. In the 3rd and final match, Wellalage was the hero for his country which helped the Lankans to register a bilateral series in the fifty overs format against India after 27 years.
Today, in this segment, we shall reveal the name of the Sri Lanka captain who won the ODI series 27 years back in 1997 –
That time in 1997, India had toured Sri Lanka for a three-match series in the One Day International format. The first two matches were played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the home side, Sri Lanka won both games while the last game, which was played at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, was pushed to the reserve day and on the next day the Lankans won that game as well.

Sri Lanka had won just one ODI World Cup as of now and that win came under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga in 1996 when India and Pakistan jointly hosted that ICC mega event of the fifty overs format. In 1997, Ranatunga inspired his team to win the ODI bilateral series win against India which was the last one for Sri Lanka before they won yesterday.
