Why Are Companies Reluctant to Hire Gen Z?

Survey Report: According to a survey conducted by Intelligent.com, 6 out of 10 companies admitted to firing college graduates this year. Additionally, 1 in 7 recruiters openly stated that they prefer not to hire Gen Z employees.

The survey, which included nearly 1,000 companies, was first reported by Newsweek. Hugh Nguyen, Chief Education and Career Development Advisor at Intelligent.com, commented that fresh graduates often struggle to adapt to workplace culture.

Lack of Professionalism Among Youth

Nguyen pointed out that while young people possess theoretical knowledge, they often lack the practical skills required to thrive in a professional environment. Gen Z employees are seen as less focused, lazier, and more careless when it comes to their work. Experts attribute this behaviour to growing up in a digital world, which has shaped their outlook on work and life. Young employees are also easily influenced by political and social campaigns on social media, which can disrupt company operations and become a headache for employers.

Experts Blame the Education System

Several experts have blamed the education system for this trend. One advisor told Newsweek that modern education focuses more on theory than behaviour. While learning about Greek mythology might be intriguing, it’s less useful in the professional world. Education today is not effectively preparing students to become professionals
