Winner and Runner-Up Prize Money

The ICC had announced the prize money distribution at the beginning of the T20 World Cup. This year, a total of approximately ₹93.5 crores was set aside for distribution among the participating teams. The Indian team, as the winners, received a substantial amount of ₹20.36 crores. The runner-up, South Africa, was awarded ₹10.64 crores.

Semifinalists and Super-8 Teams’ Prize Money

Teams that reached the semifinals but did not make it to the final were also rewarded handsomely, each receiving ₹6.55 crores. Teams that advanced to the Super-8 stage were given ₹3.18 crores each. Additionally, teams finishing third in the group stage were awarded ₹2.06 crores. For every match won up to the Super-8 stage, teams earned ₹25.9 lakhs.

Distribution of Prize Money Among Players

According to media reports, the prize money received by the winning team is equally distributed among all the players. Therefore, the ₹20.36 crores won by India for clinching the T20 World Cup 2024 title will be shared equally among the team members. In addition to the team prize money, individual accolades such as the Man of the Match award come with separate prize money and trophies.

Man of the Match Award

The Man of the Match title is awarded to the player who delivers an outstanding performance in a particular game. In the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024, India batted first and set a target of 176 runs. South Africa, in response, could only manage 169 runs. Virat Kohli played a pivotal role in India’s innings, scoring 76 runs, while Akshar Patel contributed 47 runs. For his brilliant performance, Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match. However, the celebration was bittersweet as Kohli announced his retirement from T20 cricket, making this his last Player of the Match award in the format.

India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024 is not just a victory in cricket but a moment of immense national pride. The meticulous distribution of prize money ensures that every player who contributed to this historic win is duly rewarded, celebrating their collective effort and individual brilliance.
