The orange cap in the history of the Indian Premier League is given to the batsmen who has scored the most runs in a single edition of the tournament while the Purple cap is given to the bowlers who have bagged the most wickets in that year’s edition of this cash-rich league tournament.

India’s Virat Kohli is the current cap holder of this edition while Harshal Patel is the purple cap holder of TATA IPL 2024. The orange cap holders of this cash-rich league tournament have done well to take their teams to the finals. But only two players have won the IPL title when they have donned the orange cap and rest of the players in the past 16 and a half seasons have not been successful in helping their franchise sides to lift the IPL trophy.

Today we shall mention the two Indian players who won the orange cap and their team also won the IPL title in that same year

1. Robin Uthappa –

The star former batter of the Kolkata Knight Team and Chennai Super Kings franchise was a good white-ball player. Uthappa was in the T20 International squad of team India when they lifted their first and only World T20 Trophy. When Robin played for KKR, the Purple Army won their second title in 2014. Uthappa is the first player who won the orange cap and his franchise team, KKR also won their second trophy in the history of this competition. Uthappa scored 660 runs in that edition.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad –

Ruturaj Gaikwad Gaikwad

The current opening batter and skipper from the Yellow Army, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a dependable batter for the Chennai Super Kings and that is why he was also bestowed upon the captaincy role. But unfortunately, Chennai hasn’t made it to the finals of the TATA IPL 2024.

In the title-winning season of the Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj was also awarded the Emerging Player of the Year. He won the orange cap for scoring the most runs (635 runs) in that season and he is the only second player who has won the orange cap and his team CSK won the title in the same year of 2021. That trophy was CSK’s fourth title in the history of this tournament and all the five trophies have come under MS Dhoni only.
