In Cricket, the bowlers are the ones who do the hard work. Their job is not just to restrict the batsmen and stop the run flow. But the bowlers should also pick up wickets so that their team is constantly in the game. The T20 format is the most challenging one because the batters always look to score more runs against the holders of white cherry.

In four overs, the bowlers need to showcase their variations, skills and worth, which is not an easy job. The bowlers should pick up wickets at regular intervals so that they can restrict and also stop the run flow. In the IPL, some bowlers have done well in the cash-rich league tournament and that too under immense pressure.

The Purple Cap in the Indian Premier League is given to the bowlers who have picked up the most wickets in that edition. However, in the history of this T20 event, just three bowlers have been awarded the Purple Cap and their franchise teams have also won the IPL Title in the same year. Here are those three bowlers who have achieved this marvellous feat in this cash-rich league tournament.

1. Sohail Tanvir –

Sohail Tanvir

The players from Pakistan played in the Indian Premier League tournament only in 2008, which was the first-ever season of this cash-rich league T20 tournament. Since then no Pakistani players have been included in any of the franchise sides and the BCCI has also not organised any bilateral series between India and Pakistan. Now these two cricketing nations meet only in the ICC events and Asia Cup tournaments.

Sohail Tanvir is still the only player from Pakistan to win an award in the IPL. Tanvir was the Purple Cap holder for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2008 season when RR won their first title. He picked up 22 wickets from just 11 games in that inaugural edition with one five-fer. His economy was 6.46 and his average was 12.09.

2. Rudra Pratap Singh –

RP Singh was a brilliant pace bowler who also helped India to win their first and only T20 World Cup trophy in 2007 in the Proteas Nation. RP was the first Indian to be awarded the Purple Cap in the IPL. In 2009, Singh picked up 23 wickets from 16 matches, which also helped his franchise side Deccan Chargers to win that year’s title. Rudra is the first Indian bowler to achieve this feat in this tournament.

3. Bhuneshwar Kumar –

The current star lead bowler of Sunrisers Hyderabad was in great form in the TATA IPL 2016 edition. SRH won the title in that year when Bhuvi picked up 23 wickets in 17 matches of the Indian Premier League. He also did well in the 2017 edition. But the Orange Army didn’t defend their title. In the 2017 IPL season, Kumar picked up 26 wickets from just 14 games.
