Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube/Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj/Harshit Rana, and Arshdeep Singh.

India needs to win the third and the final fifty overs game of this three-match series versus Sri Lanka. Their batting has been a huge issue and despite getting a good and solid start in the first two games, they have not crossed the line.

The first match of this series ended in a tie while in the second game, India lost the match by 32 runs.

The middle order needs to fire. Senior players like Kohli, Rahul and Shreyas need to do the job. India can make changes in their playing XI. Rishabh Pant can be brought back in place of the Karnataka wicketkeeper batter Kannur Lokesh Rahul. KL has been good behind stumps. But not that good with the bat in hand.

While Rishabh Pant was part of the T20 World Cup 2024 winning side. He did a good job in that tournament when he batted at number three batting position. Pant has the confidence to take on the Lankan spinners and he can clear any ground with ease because of his six-hitting ability. The contest between Pant and the spinners of Sri Lanka would be a treat to watch in the series-deciding match.

India’s bowling in the backend overs too is a concern. The bowlers leak far too many runs in the final few overs. Mohammed Siraj, the experienced bowler was smashed all over the park. He can also be replaced with young Harshit Rana or Khaleel Ahmed, who did a decent job in the T20I series versus Zimbabwe, which India won after they lost the first game of that series.

Shivam Dube who took the match close to the winning distance in the first one day international was out on a golden duck in the second match of that series. He can be replaced with Riyan Parag as an all-rounder along side Washington Sundar and Axar Patel.

Bapu Ji (Axar Patel) has been good with the bat and ball in this series. He has been the 3rd highest scorer in this ODI series overall with 77 runs from two matches played.

Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka (c), Janith Liyanage, Dunith Wellalage, Kamindu Mendis, Akila Dananjaya, Asitha Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay.

The home side has a chance of clinching a rare series win over India in the next game which will be played tomorrow. Sri Lanka doesn’t have to change anything much in their playing XI.

They must play with their full potential and talent. This talented side can be dangerous on their day. Their win in the last game showed exactly that.

But the batting is also a worry for them. In the second match of this series, every batter had the ideal start. Still very few batters could end with a half-century.

All is well for Sri Lanka when Wellalage bats. He has been a rescue man for them in this series. He has been the second-highest run-getter in this series with 106 runs in just two games played till now.

Wellalage has been a glue to the middle and lower order of this Sri Lankan side. The team management can also promote him up the order.

Now that the Lankans will not lose the series, they can experiment with their batting order for this final match. Sri Lanka was whitewashed in the T20Is earlier. Despite the low in confidence, they have done so well to shock a powerhouse team like India in ODIs.
