Recently, the city of Bengaluru was shaken by the tragic suicide of software engineer Atul Subhash. Atul reportedly took this drastic step due to alleged harassment by his wife. While this case was still making headlines, another similar incident surfaced, involving another software engineer, Pramod, who also ended his life due to alleged domestic abuse.
Striking Similarities Between Two Cases
Both Atul and Pramod were successful software engineers earning well in their respective fields. However, their personal lives were marred by domestic violence. Atul, on December 9, hanged himself in his Bengaluru flat, leaving behind a 24-page suicide note and a one-and-a-half-hour video. Similarly, Pramod, who left his home on December 29 under the pretext of an errand, never returned. His body was later found in a river, raising further concerns about the issue of domestic abuse among men.
Atul’s Case: Wife and In-Laws in Custody
In Atul’s case, his wife Nikita, mother-in-law Nisha, and brother-in-law were taken into judicial custody. The case is currently being heard in Bengaluru’s lower court, High Court, and Supreme Court. Atul’s suicide note accused his wife and in-laws of forcing him to take this step, even preventing him from meeting his son.
Pramod’s Case: Suicide Amid Allegations of Domestic Violence
Pramod worked as a software engineer at a reputed company in Bengaluru. He reportedly suffered from depression due to constant disputes with his wife and alleged harassment by his siblings. On December 29, Pramod left home without his phone and never returned. His motorcycle and bank passbook were later found near a bridge over the Hemavati River. A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of his body from the river.
Tensions Between Families Escalate
After Pramod’s body was identified, tensions flared between his family and his wife’s relatives during the funeral. The police had to intervene to control the situation. This case is still under investigation, with no arrests made so far
Raising Awareness About Male Victims of Domestic Violence
Both incidents highlight the lesser-discussed issue of domestic violence against men. While Atul’s case has progressed to the courts, Pramod’s death underscores the urgent need for societal attention and legal support for male victims of domestic abuse.
