Volkswagen India today (August 6) launched the Onam edition of its popular SUV Taigun and sedan segment Virtus in the Indian market. This new special edition is based on the topline variants of both these cars.
Volkswagen has introduced the special edition of both the cars on the occasion of Onam festival. The company will sell only 100-100 units of these and they will be available only in Kerala. Both the cars have achieved 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP and have more than 40 safety features.
Price starts from ₹ 13.57 lakh
The German automaker has introduced both the cars with some cosmetic updates, but no mechanical changes have been made. The price of Volkswagen Taigun Onam Edition with manual transmission is Rs 14.08 lakh. At the same time, it is Rs 15.63 lakh with automatic transmission. The price of Volkswagen Virtus Onam Edition with manual transmission is Rs 13.57 lakh. At the same time, it is Rs 14.87 lakh with automatic transmission. All prices are ex-showroom.
Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus: Black exterior and interior theme in Onam Edition
Compared to its standard model, the Onam Edition of Taigun and Virtus has been given a completely black treatment both in the interior and exterior. Apart from this, dual-tone horn, front parking sensor, puddle lamp and TSI badge are available on the front fender. Based on the high-spec GT Line variant, the Taigun Onam Edition gets the same features as the GT Line.
These include 17-inch black alloy wheels, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and automatic climate control. On the other hand, the Virtus Onam Edition is based on the Highline variant and gets almost all the features of the Taigun Onam Edition, except for the electric sunroof.
Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Onam Edition: Performance
The companies have given a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in the Onam edition of Taigun and Virtus like the regular model, which generates maximum power of 113hp and peak torque of 178nm. For transmission, this engine gets the option of 6-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The regular Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus also get the option of a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder TSI EVO engine, which generates 148 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. For transmission, this engine gets the option of 6-speed MT and 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Over 40 safety features with 5 star safety rating
For passenger safety, the Taigun and Virtus have been provided with over 40 safety features including 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), reverse camera, tire pressure monitoring system, a driver alert system, ABS, ESP, ASR, EDL, auto hold, hill start assist and hill descent control. Both the cars have received a 5 star safety rating in crash tests from Global NCAP.
