As soon as the summer season arrives, everyone wants to drink something cold, and then the thought of Rooh Afza comes to mind. Who does not like Rooh Afza made in ice water or milkshake of it? But do you know how it started? Let us tell you when and how this came to existence.
Where did it started?
The name of the company that manufactures Rooh Afza is Hamdard, which has business in more than 25 countries and has more than 600 products in the market today. The story behind the making of this beverage is quite interesting.
Actually, the story of this drink is 116 years old.
In 1907, when the people of Delhi were troubled by the scorching heat and were falling ill. Then Hakim Abdul Majid, an expert in Unani medicines, prepared a special kind of drink in his medicine cabinet, the purpose of which was to save people from heat stroke. He made this drink as a claim by mixing many herbs like watermelon seeds, carrot seeds, mint, rose, khas root and many more.
The surprising thing is that after the partition of India, half of Rooh Afza’s business was reduced to Pakistan and then from there to Bangladesh. Even then, by the year 2021-22, the turnover of Rooh Afza had become Rs 700 crore.
Apart from Rooh Afza, many more products
Hamdard had recently launched tetra packs of RoohAfza Lassi and Milkshake. Apart from this, it has also launched a sugar-free variant of it for their health-conscious customers, which exactly tastes and smells like the original one.
Rooh Afza was included in the essential items during lockdown
The popularity of Rooh Afza in India can be gauged from the fact that during the Corona epidemic in 2020 , when there was a lockdown in the entire country and the sale of only a few products was allowed, then this soft drink was also included in the essential category of products by the government.
