World’s Cheapest And Most Expensive Cities: Where Does Your City Rank?

The list of the cheapest and most expensive cities in the world has been released. Nine cities of India have been ranked among the cheapest cities, while only three cities of Pakistan have made it to the list.

Data company Numbeo has published the “Numbeo Cost of Living Index 2025”, which includes 327 cities around the world. Many of the 14 cheapest cities around the world are from Egypt, India and Pakistan.

These Countries Have the Most Expensive Cities

Numbeo conducted this survey by comparing the cost of living in cities worldwide based on New York’s living expenses. According to the survey, five of the most expensive cities are in Switzerland, while four are in the United States.

Apart from Switzerland and the US, cities from Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Iceland have also made it to the list of the 20 most expensive cities.

Cheapest And Most Expensive Cities: India Leads with Nine, Pakistan Has Three

Out of the 14 cheapest cities ranked from 327 to 314, two are from Egypt, nine from India, and three from Pakistan. The Indian city of Coimbatore is the cheapest city in the world, ranking 327th on the list.

Egypt’s Alexandria is ranked 326th, while Pakistan’s Lahore and Karachi are ranked 325th and 324th respectively. Islamabad is ranked 314th in the ranking.

Lucknow is the second cheapest city in India at 323 in the global ranking, followed by Jaipur (322), Surat (321), Kochi (320), Bhubaneswar (319), Kolkata (318), Vadodara (316) and Chandigarh (315).

Other Indian cities in the list are Mumbai (286), Gurugram (291), Pune (299), Delhi (301), Noida (303), Hyderabad (309), Ahmedabad (310) and Chennai at 311.

Zurich Tops the List of World’s Most Expensive Cities

Five cities in Switzerland are among the most expensive cities in the world, with three of them occupying the top three spots. Zurich is the most expensive city, followed by Lausanne and Geneva. New York in the US is ranked fourth, while Switzerland’s Basel and Bern are ranked fifth and sixth respectively.

San Francisco and Honolulu, both US cities, are ranked seventh and eighth. Reykjavik in Iceland and Boston in the US are also among the top 10 most expensive cities. Singapore is ranked 11th, Washington 13th and London in the UK is ranked 14th.

This report compares the cost of living in different cities based on New York’s lifestyle expenditure. This includes rent, food, household expenses, transportation and other daily living costs.
