Family Background

Yashasvi Jaiswal was born on 28 December 2001 in Suriyawan, Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Bhupendra Jaiswal, who used to run a small hardware store.

His mother, Kanchan Jaiswal, is a homemaker.

Yashasvi is the youngest in his family and has one elder brother and two elder sisters.

Cricket Began at Azad Maidan

Born in a small village of Uttar Pradesh, Yashasvi moved to Mumbai at the age of just 10 to receive cricket training.

In the beginning, he got a place to stay at a dairy shop, in exchange for which he had to work at the same shop.

Everything went fine for some time, but when Yashasvi was repeatedly unable to work due to his practice schedule, the shop owner removed him from the job and he also lost the roof over his head.

After that, Yashasvi started living in a tent at the ground with a groundsman and began selling panipuri to earn his livelihood.

After living in a tent for three years, finally in December 2013, Yashasvi came into the notice of Jwala Singh, who runs a cricket academy in Santacruz. He recognized Jaiswal’s talent and arranged accommodation for him.

Along with this, Singh decided to become Jaiswal’s legal guardian and obtained his power of attorney.

Beginning of Youth Career

In 2015, Jaiswal created an all-rounder record in school cricket by scoring 319 runs not out and taking 13 wickets for 99 runs in a Giles Shield match.

After this, he was selected for the Mumbai Under-16 team and then for India’s national Under-19 cricket team, in which he scored 318 runs. Then in 2018, Jaiswal became the Player of the Tournament in the Under-19 Asia Cup, which India won.

In 2019, Jaiswal scored 173 runs off 220 balls in a Youth Test match against South Africa Under-19.

In the same year, he scored 294 runs in seven matches in the Under-19 Tri-Series in England, which included four half-centuries.

In December 2019, he was named in India’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Jaiswal was the top run-scorer in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and won the Player of the Tournament award, which included a century in the semi-final against Pakistan.

Domestic Career

Jaiswal made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy on 7 January 2019 and his List A debut on 28 September 2019 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

On 16 October 2019, Yashasvi scored 203 runs off 154 balls against Jharkhand in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match, becoming the youngest player in the history of List A cricket to score a double century at the age of 17.

His innings included 17 fours and 12 sixes, and he was among the top five run-scorers of the tournament, scoring 564 runs in six matches at an average of 112.80.

He was named in the India B team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.

International Career

Yashasvi was also part of Team India’s squad for the 2022–23 Asian Games, in which India won the gold medal, and Yashasvi also scored a century against Nepal.

In June 2023, Yashasvi received his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team and was given a chance to play against the West Indies.

He scored a century in his debut match itself and was dismissed at a score of 171 runs. He also received the Player of the Match award.

From 2023, Jaiswal was declared a permanent member of India’s Test squad and India’s permanent Test opener.

In August 2023, he was given a chance in the third T20 match of the West Indies series.

He scored only one run in that match, but in the very next match, he scored his maiden half-century.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Yashasvi was part of the team, but he did not get a chance to play a single match.

In the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jaiswal was India’s highest run-scorer, in which he scored 161 runs in the first Test match.

Franchise Career

In the 2020 IPL auction, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals and he made his debut on 22 September 2020 against Chennai Super Kings.

He scored his first half-century against Chennai Super Kings on 2 October 2021, which was the second fastest for his franchise.

In an IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Jaiswal scored 26 runs in the first over against Nitish Rana, and in the same match, he also created the record for the fastest half-century by scoring it in just 13 balls.

In IPL 2023, Jaiswal was the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals, in which he scored 625 runs in 14 matches. In the same season, he was also in the race for the Orange Cap.

Jaiswal has scored two centuries for Rajasthan Royals, one in 2023 and the other in 2024, both against Mumbai Indians.

According to sources, Yashasvi’s rumored girlfriend’s name is Maddie Hamilton, who is a UK-based student.

She was seen supporting Yashasvi in an India jersey during a Test match in Hyderabad.

On 11 May 2023, Yashasvi scored the fastest half-century in IPL history in just 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Yashasvi is the third youngest player to score two double centuries in a single series. Before him, Sir Don Bradman and Vinod Kambli had achieved this feat.

He equaled Wasim Akram’s record by hitting 12 sixes in a single Test innings.

Yashasvi became the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score 700 runs in a single series.

Fastest to score 1000 Test runs, achieved in 16 innings.

First player to hit more than 20 sixes in a single Test series against England.

He was also selected for the ICC Player of the Month.
