Asia Cup: India is the defending champions of the Asia Cup of the One Day International format in 2023. Sri Lanka will go to this year’s Asian event as the defending champions of the Asia Cup when they won this tournament in 2022. India and Sri Lanka are also the two teams who have won this six-team event the most times.
Now in 2025, the Asia Cup will again be played in the 20 overs format and India is set to host this Asian event. In 1991, India hosted the ODI Asia Cup and they went on to win that year’s edition. 34 years later India is again set to host the 17th edition of the Asia Cup.
India also won the inaugural edition of Asia Cup T20 in 2016 in Bangladesh. This year’s Asia Cup will be played in the shortest format owing to the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The schedule of Asia Cup in 2025 hasn’t been announced yet. But the sources say that these two teams will face off in Asia Cup 2025 for three times.
India And Pakistan Will Face Off Thrice In The Asia Cup 2025 Event –
India and Pakistan are the two arch rivalling cricket playing nations. Recently, India defeated Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 league match and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 encounter in Dubai. According to the reports, these two nations will face off thrice in the Asia Cup of 2025 edition.
Pakistan will be allotted a new venue for playing their matches. Now the ICC (International Cricket Council) has decided to allot a separate venue for India when the matches are played in Pakistan and for Pakistan whenever the tournaments are held in India.
However, Pakistan doesn’t require a different venue when the matches are played in India because there will be no security concerns for the Men in Green when they come to India to play the Asia Cup and the other ICC events. But India always demands a separate venue other than Pakistan because India has the security threats in that nation. The ICC and ACC boards should understand the difference when India and Pakistan ask for alternate venues for the matches.
The cricket-loving fans would witness Indo Pak clash thrice in the upcoming event of the Asia Cup in 2025. These two teams will meet in the group stages, super four round and possibly in the semi-finals or the finals. India and Pakistan have never met each other in the Asia Cup finals till now.
