Chennai Super Kings team has played a masterstroke by bringing a new player in the middle of the IPL. The team is going to field this new player soon. We are talking about Dewald Brevis, who previously played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Although he did not find any buyer this season, now CSK has decided to give him a chance. His inclusion is expected to strengthen the team further. Dewald Brevis is known for his explosive batting and strong performance.
Dewald Brevis Replaces Gurjapneet Singh in CSK Squad
Chennai Super Kings announced on social media a while ago that Gurjapneet Singh is out of the current IPL season due to injury. The team wished him a speedy recovery. Soon after, CSK confirmed that Dewald Brevis has been included in the team in his place.
Now you must be wondering how a foreign player can replace an Indian cricketer. Gurjapneet Singh is indeed Indian, but during the IPL auction, CSK picked only seven foreign players in their squad.
As per BCCI rules, each team can include a maximum of eight foreign players in their squad. Since CSK had one foreign slot vacant, they utilised it by bringing in Dewald Brevis.
Dewald Brevis Has Previously Played IPL for Mumbai Indians
Dewald Brevis, a native of South Africa, is often compared to AB de Villiers. He has previously played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Brevis was a part of the Mumbai squad in IPL 2022 and 2024.
During his stint, he played 10 matches and scored 230 runs for the team. He maintained an average of around 23 and a strike rate of 133.72. However, he was given limited opportunities to play during his stint with the franchise.
Batting Woes Continue for CSK
The team of Chennai Super Kings is currently struggling with their batting lineup. Ruturaj Gaikwad has already been ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. As a result, the captaincy duties have once again fallen on MS Dhoni’s shoulders. The rest of the batting unit hasn’t been delivering consistent performances either.
In such a situation, Dewald Brevis is expected to join the team soon and can be seen in action soon. Although CSK is currently at the bottom of the points table at 10th place, they are still not out of the playoff race. If the team starts winning consistently from here, then it is still easy for them to make it to the top four.
