Indian Railways New Rule: More than 2.5 crore passengers travel by train every day in India and thousands of passenger trains run daily for them. Most of these passengers prefer to travel in reserved coaches and usually book their tickets well in advance. However, many times even after booking, the tickets do not get confirmed and go to the waiting list.
Despite this, many passengers travel in reserved coaches like sleeper or AC by taking waiting tickets. If you are also among them, then you will not be able to do so now. Indian Railways has now changed the rules in this regard.
Indian Railways New Rule: No Travel Allowed in Sleeper and AC Coaches on Waiting Tickets
Indian Railways has recently changed the rules for travelling with waiting tickets. Earlier, passengers used to board sleeper or AC coaches even with waiting tickets. But now this will not happen.
As per the new rule issued by Indian Railways, passengers with waiting list tickets will now be allowed to travel only in general (unreserved) coaches. They will not be allowed to board any reserved coach including sleeper and AC class.
If they are found travelling in a reserved coach with a waiting ticket, the passenger will be fined by the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner). The amount of fine will vary depending on the class of the coach.
Penalty Details for Travelling on Waiting Tickets

In view of the increasing crowd in reserved coaches, Indian Railways has implemented new rules from May 1. Under these rules, no passenger with a waiting ticket will be allowed to travel in sleeper or AC coaches. Those who violate the rules will be fined by the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner).
If a passenger is found travelling in a sleeper coach with a waiting ticket, he will have to pay the full fare of the ticket as well as a fine of Rs 250. If caught in an AC coach, a fine of Rs 440 will have to be paid in addition to the applicable fare.
Apart from this, the TTE also has the right to deboard passengers travelling in reserved coaches with waiting tickets.
