Oreshnik Missile: Russia Unleashes Nightmare Air Strike as ‘Oreshnik’ Strikes Ukraine Again!

Must read

Oreshnik Missile: In one of the most devastating air assaults since the conflict began, Russia launched a massive wave of missiles and drones over the weekend, turning the skies of Ukraine into a fiery battleground.

The relentless bombardment targeted the capital, Kyiv, and surrounding areas, leaving a trail of destruction, casualties, and global outrage.

At the center of this latest escalation is Vladimir Putin’s terrifying new toy: the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile.

The Night Kyiv Shook: A Rain of 700 Killers

Oreshnik Missile: The scale of Sunday’s attack was staggering. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a combined swarm of 600 drones and 90 missiles overnight.

Ukrainian air defense systems worked overtime in what Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called one of the largest strikes on the capital to date. While the air defenses managed to intercept an impressive 604 incoming threats, the sheer volume overwhelmed the system.

President Volodymyr Zelensky shared the grim reality on Telegram, explaining that unfortunately, not all ballistic missiles could be intercepted. He noted that the worst damage was done to Kyiv, which was the main target of this Russian assault.

The aftermath was heartbreaking: at least four people were killed, and dozens lay injured. The strikes deliberately crippled civilian infrastructure, burning down a local market, devastating a water supply facility, and damaging multiple homes and schools.

The ‘Oreshnik’ Factor: Psychological Terror or Nuclear Warning?

Oreshnik Missile: For only the third time in history, Russia deployed its feared Oreshnik hypersonic missile. Falling near the city of Bila Tserkva, the weapon has sent shockwaves through Western intelligence agencies.

Classified by the US as an Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM), its hypersonic speed and unpredictable flight trajectory make it virtually impossible to intercept with Ukraine’s current air defense. To make matters worse, it is fully capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

However, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha revealed that this specific missile was fitted with a dummy warhead, meaning it carried no live explosives.

This move triggered sharp criticism from European leaders, who view the deployment as pure intimidation. Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, noted on X (formerly Twitter) that using a nuclear-capable missile is nothing more than an attempt to create “political terror” and put on a dangerous show of nuclear force.

The Oreshnik Timeline: Three Strikes of the Hypersonic Monster

Russia has treated the Oreshnik as a rare, high-stakes weapon, using it very selectively since its debut.

The first-ever deployment occurred on November 21, 2024, targeting the Pivdenmash Aerospace Plant in Dnipro. The launch was so sudden and powerful that Ukraine initially feared it was an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

The second strike took place in January 2026, when Russia fired the missile at western Ukraine, claiming to target the Lviv State Aviation Repair Plant.

This recent Sunday strike near Bila Tserkva marks the third time the world has seen this hypersonic weapon in action, this time serving as a high-stakes psychological threat.

Blame Game: Putin’s Revenge vs. Zelensky’s Call to Action

The Kremlin claims this massive air raid was not random but a direct retaliation. President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of launching a “terrorist attack” on Friday against a college hostel in the Russian-controlled city of Starobilsck, located in the Luhansk region. Russian state media agency TASS claimed the death toll of children from that drone strike had risen to 18.

While Ukraine’s military fiercely rejected these claims, stating they strictly target military infrastructure and never civilians, Putin used the incident to justify unleashing the Oreshnik and other ballistic missiles.

A furious President Zelensky didn’t hold back, taking to Telegram to slam the Kremlin’s actions. He stated that the Russian leadership has truly gone mad and insisted that Russia must receive its punishment. He urged America, Europe, and other nations to make firm decisions to put enough pressure on the leader sitting in Moscow so that he is finally forced to stop the war and talk peace.

Global Backlash: The West Condemns Putin’s “Madness”

World leaders quickly lined up to condemn the latest escalation, calling out Russia’s aggressive tactics.

In France, President Emmanuel Macron labeled the use of the Oreshnik missile as a “major provocation” in Russia’s ongoing war of aggression. Meanwhile, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the attack a “highly irresponsible escalation” and reaffirmed that Germany stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine.

As the smoke clears over Kyiv, the world watches anxiously. With the deployment of unstoppable hypersonic technology and escalating political tension, the conflict has entered a volatile new chapter.
