Must read

Muzaffarpur Hospital Fire: In a heartbreaking incident, a devastating fire broke out at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur during the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The fire quickly spread through the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) located on the fifth floor of Prasad Hospital in the Brahmpuran area.

This tragic incident has resulted in the deaths of at least four patients. Several other people were injured and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

Local authorities fear that the death toll might go up because the condition of some rescued patients is highly critical.

The incident took place when most of the patients and staff were asleep.

Thick and toxic smoke quickly filled the corridors of the fifth floor, causing panic and making it difficult for people to breathe.

Emergency teams and fire department personnel rushed to the spot immediately after getting the call and started a major rescue operation to save the people trapped inside.

Victims Identified and Patient Details

Muzaffarpur Hospital Fire: According to official statements from the district administration, the four patients who lost their lives were under intensive care when the fire started. Because they were already very ill, they could not move on their own to escape the smoke. The deceased individuals have been identified as:

Krishnandann Prasad Singh

Geeta Devi

Uday Kumar

Sashank

At the time of the incident, there were around 24 patients admitted to different wards of Prasad Hospital. Out of these, about 13 patients were in the ICU where the fire originally broke out.

Quick Rescue Operation Saves Lives

Muzaffarpur Hospital Fire: As soon as the fire department received the emergency call, a team was rushed to the hospital.

Fire official Ram Niwas Pandey stated that the rescue workers faced a lot of trouble due to the heavy smoke, but they managed to evacuate around 15 people, mostly bedridden patients, from the ICU.

The Civil Surgeon also reached the spot quickly to handle the medical emergency.

All the rescued patients were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals so that their treatment could continue without any delay.

Authorities are currently verifying their conditions and keeping track of all the patients who were moved.

Government Actions and Investigation

This tragic event has caught the attention of top state officials. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the families.

State Health Minister Nishant Kumar spoke with the Muzaffarpur District Magistrate (DM) to get all the details and ordered the best medical care for the injured.

The Bihar government has also announced a financial help (ex-gratia) of ₹4 lakh for the family members of each victim who died.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen, along with senior police officers, stayed at the hospital to monitor the situation.

“We have recorded statements from the family members of the patients admitted at the hospital,” DM Subrat Kumar Sen told the media.

He added that a formal probe (investigation) has been ordered. “After the inquiry report comes, strict legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty for this incident,” he said.

Rising Concerns Over Fire Safety

This horrifying incident in Muzaffarpur has once again raised serious questions about fire safety compliance in hospitals and commercial buildings.

Shockingly, this disaster comes just a day after another massive fire in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on June 3, which claimed at least 21 lives.

Local people and safety experts are now questioning whether the hospital had proper fire NOCs, working smoke alarms, and emergency exits.

The investigation team will look into the exact cause of the fire which is initially suspected to be a short circuit to find out if negligence was responsible for this loss of innocent lives.
