Mumbai Central Park: Mumbai is set to get its own massive urban park, mirroring iconic global spaces like New York’s Central Park and London’s Hyde Park.
Speaking at the 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani announced that the foundation is actively developing the 130-acre Coastal Road Gardens along the city’s coastline.
Envisioned as a major green lung for the metropolitan city, the project aims to offer a space of peace, nature, and community infrastructure for Mumbaikars.
Masterplan and Environmental Vision
Mumbai Central Park: The Coastal Road Gardens project is being executed by a specialized team comprising international landscape architects, ecologists, urban planners, and engineers.
The masterplan design focuses on blending global standards with the authentic cultural identity of Mumbai.
Environmental sustainability is a core pillar of the project. The entire 130-acre expanse will eventually house more than 60,000 trees.
Nita Ambani confirmed that initial physical work on the ground is already underway, with 15,000 trees already brought on-site.
The development is designed to serve as a thriving hub of local flora and fauna, significantly improving the city’s air quality and long-term ecological health.
World-Class Sports and Recreational Facilities
Mumbai Central Park: Apart from being a nature reserve, the Coastal Road Gardens will double as a massive sports and recreation destination. The facility will cater to families and sports enthusiasts with a diverse array of modern amenities, including:
Shaded walking tracks and dedicated cycling paths
Open maidans (grounds) and public open-air gyms
Children’s play areas and safe family zones
A unique, dedicated Tree Museum
For sports development, the gardens will feature state-of-the-art courts and grounds for multiple disciplines.
These include cricket, football, tennis, basketball, kabaddi, as well as rapidly growing modern sports like padel and pickleball.
Additionally, dedicated spaces will be created to host vibrant community events, arts, and cultural exhibitions.
Strategic Education and Healthcare Expansions
During the same address, Nita Ambani unveiled separate large-scale institutional projects aimed at social and urban transformation.
Following official approvals from the Government of Maharashtra, Reliance is moving forward with the establishment of a world-class Reliance University.
The project will feature a 410-acre campus designed to elevate India’s position in global higher education.
Alongside the university, plans were also revealed for a comprehensive “Medical City” in Mumbai, which aims to bring advanced, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and treatments to the residents of the city.
These projects align with the broader reach of the Reliance Foundation, which has reportedly impacted over 97 million lives across India through its various social initiatives.
Vantara Wildlife Initiative Marks First Anniversary
The address also highlighted updates on Vantara, the comprehensive animal rescue, care, and rehabilitation initiative operated by the Reliance Foundation in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Spanning across a 3,500-acre premise, Vantara has completed its first year since its formal inception.
To mark this milestone, the foundation stone was officially laid for ‘Vantara University.’ This specialized institution will be dedicated to training the next generation of veterinary scientists and wildlife conservationists.
Currently, the Vantara complex houses advanced infrastructure including temperature-controlled animal habitats, an exclusive elephant hospital, quarantine units, and the Shri Dhirubhai Ambani Central Veterinary Laboratory, which specializes in diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT scans, ultrasound), disease surveillance, and molecular biology.
