Jharkhand JPSC Protest 2026: A massive wave of student-led demonstrations has intensified across Jharkhand, with hundreds of civil service aspirants sitting on an indefinite protest at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
The ongoing agitation centers on alleged widespread irregularities, paper leaks, and OMR sheet tampering in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services examination.
As the protest escalated into hunger strikes and planned marches toward the state assembly, Chief Minister Hemant Soren broke his silence, assuring youth that the state government is handling the matter with extreme seriousness.
Why Are Students Protesting in Jharkhand?
Who is the rank 1 topper of JPSC exam? The controversy began following the declaration of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Test results. Candidates and student bodies raised critical questions regarding the transparency of the recruitment agency:
OMR Sheet Discrepancies & Leaks: According to media reports and student allegations, OMR sheets of certain candidates surfaced on social media, showing that candidates with scores below the expected cut-off were declared qualified.
Lack of Category-Wise Cut-Offs: The Commission failed to publish official category-wise cut-off marks alongside the preliminary result merit list.
Procedural Violations: Aspirants claimed the merit list lacked the signatures of JPSC’s constitutional members, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the selection process.
Demand for Central Agency Probe: While the state government directed a Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe, protesting students argue that state agencies often stall or cover up high-profile scams.
Demonstrators are firmly demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into recruitment exams held over the past seven years.
Devendra Nath Mahato Leads Hunger Strike at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium
To push their demands forward, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato (associated with Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha – JLKM) launched an indefinite hunger strike at the protest venue.
Several other aspirants have joined the fast, stating that they will not end their hunger strike until the 14th JPSC preliminary exam is officially canceled and a CBI investigation is ordered.
Student organizations, including the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and non-political aspirant groups, have scheduled phased rallies and a “Vidhan Sabha March” toward the Jharkhand Assembly to maintain pressure on the state administration.
Solidarity has also poured in from across the country, with citizens sending food packages and supplies via online delivery platforms to support those camping at the site.
CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Connects via Video Call
Jharkhand JPSC Protest 2026: The protest in Ranchi has drawn attention from national student networks. Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Chhatra Yuva Parishad (CJP) which was previously at the forefront of the NEET paper leak protests in New Delhi extended solidarity to the Jharkhand movement.
In a video call with key student representatives on site, Dipke assured the aspirants that CJP stands firmly behind their demands for administrative accountability and fair recruitment.
However, local media reports indicate that a section of the protesting students voiced dissatisfaction over the physical absence of some CJP leaders, citing that leadership presence on the ground would bolster morale during the fast-unto-death.
How Government and Police Have Responded
In response to the growing uproar:
Resignations & Arrests: Former JPSC Chairperson L. Khiangte tendered his resignation amid mounting public pressure. Meanwhile, CID teams conducted raids across Ranchi, Palamu, and Hazaribagh, arresting multiple individuals including former JPSC officials and representatives of external testing agencies.
CM Hemant Soren’s Statement: Speaking to journalists in Ramgarh, Chief Minister Hemant Soren addressed the students’ demands directly. “Whatever is required for the youth, within the framework of the Constitution and the law, the government stands with them.
They will get justice,” CM Soren said. He emphasized that the CID is working around the clock and asked students to await the official investigation report before drawing conclusions.
Despite the Chief Minister’s assurances, protesting aspirants maintain that only an independent CBI probe and systemic overhaul of state recruitment boards will restore public faith in Jharkhand’s competitive examination process.
