Pilot Smit Machhar Honored: On September 30, Flydubai Flight FZ1073 was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv when an unspeakable emergency unfolded mid-sky. Without warning, the first officer (co-pilot) launched a sudden and violent assault on Captain Smit Machhar inside the cockpit.
According to media reports, the rogue co-pilot attempted to deliberately crash the airliner. To execute his dangerous plan, he grabbed the emergency crash axe located inside the cockpit and repeatedly struck Captain Machhar on the head.
Despite suffering severe injuries and bleeding heavily from multiple head strikes, Captain Machhar refused to yield. He managed to issue a hijacked emergency signal to air traffic controllers to raise immediate international alarms while physically fighting off the attacker to retain control of the aircraft.
Desperate Fight and Heroic Teamwork

The ceremony was attended by top UAE leaders, including Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The country’s entire flight crew from the incident was also recognized for their synchronized action and professionalism during the life-threatening event.
The leadership emphasized that Captain Machhar and the crew prioritized human safety above everything else, setting an unprecedented standard for aviation crew response.
