Bhojshala ASI Survey: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is currently surveying Dhar Bhojshala, located in Madhya Pradesh. Numerous evidences of Indian culture have surfaced during the excavation. It has been reported that idols of Hindu deities have been discovered, prompting objections from the Muslim community.
Discovery of Idols in a Sealed Room
On the 80th day of the survey, it was revealed that idols of deities were found in a sealed room beneath the stairs at Bhojshala. A total of 79 idols, including those of Lord Ganesha, Maa Parvati, Bagdevi Hanumanji, and other deities, were uncovered. This 8 by 10 feet room was opened in the presence of representatives from both Hindu and Muslim communities. The petitioner from the Hindu Front for Justice hailed this as the most significant discovery so far in the certification of Bhojshala. However, the Muslim representatives claimed these idols were placed there later.
Differing Reactions from Hindu and Muslim Communities
The Hindu community has expressed joy over the findings, while the Muslim community has voiced objections. The ASI survey at Bhojshala and Kamal Maula Mosque in Dhar has been ongoing for the past 80 days following an order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Details of the Idols Found
The excavation team used data from GPS machines to identify areas for the survey. After removing a floor and excavating the soil, they first discovered idols of Lord Ganesha, Mata Vagdevi, Parvati, Mahishasuramardini, and Hanumanji. The idols range in height from one and a half to two and a half feet.
Hindu Artefacts Found at Yagyashala
In the northern part of the site, the excavation revealed about six remains at the base of a pillar, depicting Hindu society. While leveling the soil at Yagyashala, six significant Sanatani remains were found, which the ASI included in their investigation. Gopal Sharma, representing the Hindu community, noted that rain has been filling the trench around Bhojshala with soil, but the certified remains are still intact. Ashish Goyal from the Hindu Front for Justice stated that the closed room inside Bhojshala has been under ASI control and sealed for years.
Objections from the Muslim Community
Abdul Samad, representing the Muslim community, expressed objections to the idols found on the premises. He mentioned that a room on the north side, previously used for storing items for Namaaz, had been vacated by the then-collector in 1997. He questioned how idols and remains could emerge from a room that had been empty for years, suggesting that these items were brought in after 2003. The Muslim community has lodged their objections with the ASI survey team, insisting that items introduced post-2003 should not be included in the survey.
