Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to India after visiting France and the US. PM Modi left for a two-day visit to France on February 10, 2025. He then left for the US on February 12, where he met President Donald Trump.

A high-level bilateral meeting was held between the two leaders at the White House, in which they discussed key issues including trade, defence, security, energy and technology.

10 MoUs Signed During PM Modi’s France Visit

During PM Modi’s visit, the two countries signed 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs)/Agreements. The key MoUs signed between India and France include:

  • India-France Declaration on Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Launch of the logo for India-France Innovation Year 2026
  • Agreement to host 10 Indian start-ups at the French start-up incubator, Station F
  • Declaration of intent to establish a partnership on Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
  • Announcement of a trilateral development cooperation initiative
  • Joint inauguration of the Indian Consulate in Marseille

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, visited the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille. This cemetery stands as a symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who fought for peace in Europe. Both leaders paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the site.

PM Modi-Trump Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday night (Friday morning Indian time). During the meeting, President Trump praised Prime Minister Modi’s negotiation skills and described him as a tough negotiator on tariff issues.

The two countries set a target of doubling bilateral trade in the next five years and agreed to further strengthen their strategic partnership.

Additionally, President Trump announced that Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, would be extradited to India.

India and US Unite Against Terrorism

President Donald Trump emphasized that India is an important strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the Quad alliance (India, US, Japan and Australia) to ensure regional peace and stability, which will further strengthen India’s security role.

During the meeting, the US agreed to provide India with advanced defence technology and military equipment. President Trump announced that India will receive state-of-the-art weapons, fighter jets and military systems. The two countries also decided to increase joint defence production and technical cooperation.

Keeping in mind India’s growing energy needs, the US has agreed to increase export of crude oil and natural gas to India.
