Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal of using illegal migrants as “vote bank” and said the central government will not allow such actions to succeed.
Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025 on Friday, Shah ruled out any confrontation when asked about a confrontation between the West Bengal government and the BJP-led central government.
He stated, “They consider illegal migrants as their vote bank. They want to make illegal migrants their voters. But we cannot allow any party to use illegal migrants as a vote bank.”
West Bengal Govt Not Assisting in Border Security: Amit Shah
Amit Shah also accused the West Bengal government of not cooperating in border security, saying that the state’s inaction has made the problem of infiltration worse.
He strongly criticized the state for not cooperating in efforts to fence the border and alleged efforts to grant citizenship to infiltrators.
Border Fencing Delayed Due to West Bengal Govt’s Non-Cooperation
Amit Shah stated, “India shares a 2,216-km border with Bangladesh, of which 1,653 km has been fenced. However, 563 km is open, including 112 km of natural barriers like rivers and mountains, where fencing is not possible. Fencing of the remaining 450 km is getting delayed as the West Bengal government is not providing land for it.”
He further said that the Union Home Secretary has held seven meetings with the West Bengal Chief Secretary on the issue. “Whenever the fencing work begins, the ruling party workers resort to hooliganism and raise religious slogans,” he alleged.
