A case has come to light from Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh where a woman has accused private ambulance staff of harassment and misconduct. The woman claims that she was traveling in an ambulance from Lucknow with her sick husband and brother. During the journey, the driver and his associate began misbehaving with her. When she protested, the driver forcibly dropped her, along with her brother, and husband at the highway side in the Chhawani area of Basti. Not only that, but they also took her mobile phone and money. When the woman called the police using her brother’s phone by dialing 112, there was no significant response. However, the matter has now gained traction, leading to an FIR being registered at the Gazipur police station in Lucknow.

What is the full story?

The incident occurred on August 28 when a woman from a village in Siddharthnagar district arrived at a hospital in Basti with her sick husband for treatment. Seeing her husband’s deteriorating condition, she took him to Lucknow Medical College. However, due to no vacant beds, he could not be admitted, and she was forced to admit her husband to a private hospital in Lucknow. After two days, due to lack of funds, she discharged her husband. She then received the number for an ambulance from the counter at the hospital.

Upon getting into the ambulance, the driver asked the woman to sit in the front seat to avoid any trouble from the police regarding paperwork. The woman agreed and sat in the front. During the journey, she was subjected to harassment. The ambulance’s mirror was closed, preventing her brother, who was sitting in the back, from hearing her cries.

Police took her to a government hospital

In an attempt to stop the harassment, when the woman started banging on the door, the ambulance staff forcibly removed her, her husband, and her brother at the highway side in Chhawani, Basti, and fled. They also took her bag, phone, and hospital documents. Afterward, the woman’s brother called the police for help using his phone. The police arrived at the scene and took her to a nearby hospital using a government ambulance. The doctors advised them to go to Gorakhpur Medical College. After a few hours of treatment, the woman’s husband passed away. The woman alleged that when she went to the Chhawani police station to report the harassment, she was told to file an FIR in Lucknow.

Akhilesh reacts with a tweet

In response to this incident, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav reacted by posting on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), criticizing the BJP. He wrote, “Such an incident is beyond words, shameful. Unimaginable beyond the limits of words. Is there any government in UP?”
