Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday (April 18, 2026) launched a strong attack on the West Bengal government, alleging that state resources are being diverted to support “Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators” and warning that the situation could worsen without a political change.
Allegations Over Infiltration in Bengal
Addressing a rally in Kalimpong, Sarma claimed that illegal cross-border infiltration continues in West Bengal, while BJP-led governments in Assam and Tripura have taken firm measures to prevent such activities.
He alleged that the issue remains unchecked in Bengal.
Sharp Attack on Mamata Banerjee’s Governance
Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he accused her administration of focusing on vote-bank politics instead of governance.
Sarma further claimed that the state has seen limited development under her leadership, particularly in the northern regions.
BJP’s Promises and Call for Change
Calling for a shift in leadership, Sarma said the current government must be removed to safeguard the state’s future.
He added that if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal, it would take strict action against illegal infiltration and work towards a constitutional solution to the Gorkhaland issue while ensuring justice for the Gorkha community.
