Apart from Washington Sundar, no other Indian bowler was impressive in the second test match. Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, who was brought in for Mohammed Siraj went wicketless in this whole Test match. While the spin twins, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t hold their grip on this must-win match. Ash picked up just five wickets and Jaddu got just three scalps in this entire second Test match in Pune.

The Blackcaps side set a target of 359 runs after they got to 255 runs in the second innings. India started off the run chase decently. But they failed to bat long in their second innings. Mitchell Santner was the hero for the Kiwis in this red-ball match, and he was the one who gave New Zealand a famous series win over India in India.

New Zealand won both the Test matches and the series on Indian soil for the first time. The Men in Blue lost the opening red ball match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru by seven wickets to start the series with a margin of 0-1. Despite that, their performance never improved in the second Test match and India lost the match by 113 runs in Pune.

New Zealand has always struggled to win red ball matches on Indian soil on previous tours. But on this tour of 2024, New Zealand has not only won a Test match in India after 36 years. The Kiwis have also won their first ever series on Indian soil. Before this series loss at home, England defeated Team India and won the series on their home soil.

Under the leadership of Sir Alastair Cook, England came to India in 2012. India won the 1st Test match of the series in Ahmedabad. That Indian team under Mahendra Singh Dhoni outplayed the visitors in all three departments in the opening red ball match.

But Cook inspired his men to create a history in India and led his team from the front. In the second and the third Test matches, England won those games and sealed the series. England won the Tests played in Mumbai and Kolkata while the fourth match ended in a draw. Alastair Cook was the highest run-getter while Monty Panesar and Graeme Swan were the highest wicket-takers with the red cherry in hand. Cook and co won the series by a margin of 2-1.

After that series loss against England in 2012, the Men in Blue were on a winning streak of 18 red ball series wins. During that golden period, team India won 42 Test matches, seven games were drawn and India had lost just five red ball games. But now this winning run has come to an end because of below-par performances in the first two matches of this current series against the Blackcaps.
