Jantar Mantar protest : High drama and intense chaos erupted at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday as tens of thousands of demonstrators affiliated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) attempted a massive march toward Parliament.
Coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session, an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 protesters gathered to demand accountability over recent examination paper leaks and educational system failures.
The demonstration quickly escalated into a standoff with law enforcement when groups of protesters breached heavy police barricades and advanced toward the Parliament Street Police Station.
Security personnel moved in swiftly, detaining several key activists and demonstrators to prevent them from reaching the Parliament building.
Protesters Alleging Lathicharge vs. Police Denial

Protesters’ Claims: Demonstrators alleged that police resorted to a heavy-handed lathicharge to disperse the gathering, leaving several individuals injured with head wounds and severe bruises.
Police Denial: Delhi Police categorically denied using force or launching a lathicharge, asserting that officers exercised maximum restraint while managing the commotion.
“No permission has been sought or granted for any proposed march to Parliament. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS are active across the New Delhi district. Citizens are advised not to join unauthorized assemblies,” the Delhi Police clarified in an official advisory.
Heavy deployments of Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) remain stationed along all major roads leading to Parliament.
“Nobody Can Stop Us”: CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Stands Firm
Jantar Mantar protest : Despite the heavy security deployment and police intervention, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke urged supporters to remain calm and steadfast in their mission.
“Nobody can stop us. Our movement represents the youth and students of this country. The march to Parliament will remain completely peaceful, but we will not back down,” Dipke declared.
The Cockroach Janta Party, which began as a youth-based satirical movement against competitive exam irregularities, has rapidly mobilized widespread public support, making Jantar Mantar the center of nationwide youth protests.
Sonam Wangchuk’s 23-Day Fast: 3 Conditions to End Hunger Strike
Meanwhile, education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, whose hunger strike entered its 23rd consecutive day, issued a crucial statement from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Wangchuk was forcibly moved to the hospital from Jantar Mantar by police on Saturday citing medical concerns.
Describing his stay at the hospital as an “illegal detention,” Wangchuk outlined three specific conditions under which he will end his indefinite fast:
Government Accountability: The Union Government must publicly accept responsibility for systemic failures in the education system and paper leak incidents.
Parliamentary Engagement: A CJP delegation must be allowed to reach Parliament, where MPs across party lines assure them that the issue will be raised during the ongoing session.
Hospital Assurance: If health constraints or security restrictions prevent movement to Parliament, political leaders and MPs must visit Safdarjung Hospital to deliver the same assurance in person.
Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, reiterated that Wangchuk is prepared to end his fast immediately if political leaders commit to raising the education crisis on the floor of the House.
