MP Khargone Crime: A shocking and tragic incident has emerged from the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, where a 35-year-old mother of nine children allegedly hacked her husband to death with an axe while he was fast asleep.

According to media reports, the brutal crime was fueled by long-standing domestic discord, severe alcohol-driven domestic abuse, and the woman’s deep-seated fear that her husband would abandon her and their nine young children for another woman.

The accused woman initially attempted to mislead investigators by fabricating a story about an unknown intruder committing the crime.

However, a rigorous interrogation by the local police eventually cracked the case, leading to her confession and subsequent arrest.

The Fatal Night: A Gruesome Crime in Khargone

MP Khargone Crime: The horrifying incident took place on the intervening night of July 9 and 10 in the remote Bazar Khodra Chidiya village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chainpur police station in Khargone.

The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Ida Dudwe, while the accused wife has been identified as 35-year-old Rumli Bai Dudwe.

According to police officials, the crime occurred when Ida Dudwe was in a deep sleep at his home.

Overcome by resentment and fear, Rumli Bai allegedly took an axe and struck her husband three times on the head. The severe impact of the blows caused massive trauma, resulting in Ida dying on the spot.

From Intruder Mystery to Confession: How the Investigation Unfolded

MP Khargone Crime: The case officially opened on July 10, when the deceased’s brother, Bhuru Dudwe, approached the police to report that an unknown assailant had murdered his brother during the night.

Acting on the formal complaint, the Khargone police registered a case of murder and initiated a detailed investigation.

Initial circumstantial evidence and the initial statement given by Rumli Bai suggested the involvement of an outsider. The wife repeatedly told investigators that an unknown person had entered the house, attacked her husband, and fled.

However, as senior police officials, including Khargone Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP-City) Bittu Sehgal and Bhikangaon SDOP Ketan Adlak, dug deeper, discrepancies began to emerge.

Neighbors and relatives informed the police about intense and frequent marital conflicts between the couple. Noticing clear contradictions between Rumli Bai’s changing statements and the physical evidence at the crime scene, the police detained her for sustained questioning.

During the interrogation, Rumli Bai broke down and confessed to killing her husband. When questioned about why she initially lied, she revealed that she hid the truth out of sheer terror, fearing that her in-laws would instantly kill her if they discovered her involvement in the murder.

Fear of Abandonment and Domestic Violence Triggered the Act

According to media sources quoting police officials, the motive behind the extreme step was a toxic mix of marital infidelity, domestic abuse, and extreme economic vulnerability.

Rumli Bai disclosed to the police that her late husband was involved in a long-running extramarital affair with another woman.

This suspected relationship became a permanent flashpoint for violent quarrels between the duo.

Rumli Bai claimed that her husband frequently consumed alcohol and physically assaulted her, leaving her under immense psychological stress.

The tipping point, however, was a persistent fear of abandonment. Rumli Bai stated that she genuinely feared her husband would marry his girlfriend and entirely abandon her along with their nine children.

The thought of being left destitute with an exceptionally large family drove her to plan the fatal attack.

Nine Children Left Destitute Following the Tragedy

Beyond the legal and criminal aspects, the case presents a harrowing social tragedy, leaving an exceptionally large family entirely shattered.

The couple has nine children comprising six daughters and three sons with ages ranging from a mere two-and-a-half years old to 16 years old.

With their father dead and their mother facing an extended period behind bars, the children have been left entirely vulnerable.

According to the statements given by SDOP Ketan Adlak, the local authorities have temporarily handed over the care and custody of the nine children to the deceased’s elder brother and their maternal grandmother.

Following her formal confession, Rumli Bai Dudwe was produced before a local court on Tuesday, which remanded her to judicial custody.

The Khargone police are currently completing the formal documentation and collecting additional forensic evidence to build a comprehensive charge sheet.
