In Kanpur this morning, a major train accident was averted thanks to the quick thinking of the loco pilot. Sensitive materials, including an LPG cylinder, were recovered from the site.
Train accidents are frequently reported in Kanpur, and this incident is the third such case to come from the region. However, this time it was not an accident but rather a deliberate attempt to harm passengers. This suspicion arises because, unlike previous incidents where stones were placed on the tracks, this time an LPG cylinder was placed on the tracks to cause a collision and explosion.

What Happened – Kanpur Train Incident
The incident occurred on the railway track in the Shivrajpur area, just 30 kilometers from Kanpur Central. At around 8:30 PM, the Kalindi Express was passing through, and a nefarious plot was set to derail the train. For this purpose, an LPG gas cylinder, along with a glass bottle containing flammable substances and a white chemical, was placed on the tracks.
Fortunately, the train’s loco pilot spotted the cylinder on the tracks and applied the emergency brakes immediately. However, due to the train’s high speed, the engine collided with the cylinder. Thankfully, the cylinder did not explode upon impact and was thrown off to a distance, preventing a major disaster.
Investigation Begins
Following the incident, the train was halted for an hour, and authorities were notified. An investigation was initiated, and the cylinder along with other sensitive items was seized. The investigation has been classified as a terrorist plot, with forensic teams and a dog squad present at the scene.
Police Commissioner Harish Chandra stated that the passengers were panic-stricken for a brief period after the incident, but no one was injured. The railway line was reopened, and the train was allowed to proceed. The investigation is ongoing, with a close watch on all aspects.
Accident in Bihar
A similar train accident occurred in Bihar, where the Magadh Express derailed, splitting its compartments into two parts. This incident happened between Dumraon and Raghunathpur stations, near Tudi Ganj station. Upon receiving the news, there was a flurry of activity among the railway authorities. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage reported in this accident.
