Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals gave a fantastic fight to push the game into a super over in the 32nd match of the TATA IPL 2025 edition. DC won that super over contest. When the T20I format was started, instead of a super over, there was a bowl-out, which was also fun to watch. The first super over in the history of the Indian Premier League was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals during 2009 edition. Teams like Kolkata, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have played the super overs and also won the trophy in the same edition.
MI played the most super over in the IPL during their title winning seasons. Once each during 2017, 2019 and two times in 2020. CSK played the super over just once till now in 2010 when they clinched their first ever IPL trophy. The current defending champions of this season, the 18th edition, KKR had played the super over in 2014, when the Purple Army won their second trophy.
