ZIM Vs IND: India has taken a lead by a margin of 2-1 in the five-match series of the shortest format. After losing the opening encounter, the visitors, India, have played well in the 2nd and the 3rd T20 Internationals and that has helped Gill and Co to ahead of the hosts, Zimbabwe. The Blues won the third match by 23 runs.
In both the encounters which the Men in Blue won, they batted first and defended that score. Abhishek Sharma scored a magnificent century in the 2nd game and along with the contributions from Rutu and Rinku, India posted a mammoth score of 234 runs. Then won the match by 100 runs.
Yesterday as well, India batted first in the 3rd T20I and scored 182 runs. The Men in Blue reached that score because of their skipper Shubman Gill’s 66 runs and Gaikwad’s 49 runs. Then with the bowl it was Washington Sundar who picked up three wickets which helped India to restrict Zimbabwe to 159 runs in their allotted 20 overs and they fell 23 runs short of that target.
But what if India is asked to chase down a score again just like the 1st T20I match? Gill and his men fell 13 runs short of that target and Washington Sundar couldn’t finish off the game. Players like Abhishek, Rinku, and Riyan were dismissed for low scores and India’s bowling in the backend overs was also not great.
In the 4th match of this series, Zimbabwe should look to win the toss and opt to bowl first which would put some pressure on the current World Champions of the shortest format. However, India has a good bowling lineup and their batters are well-experienced to chase down a score. But despite all that, the visitors fell short of the score in the opening match and this will be there in the back of their minds.
Zimbabwe also needs to improve their batting which is their major concern. Their bowling was good in the 1st match of this series. But in the last two matches, the home side needs to step up as an all-round unit in front of a team like India. Sikander Raza needs to fire with the bat and as a leader, he needs to show the way for his young brigade, that might help them to square the series to 2 all.
