The Kiwis were thrashed in the two-match series of the Test format against Sri Lanka in the island nation. New Zealand lost that two-match series of the red ball format by a margin of 2-0. But now they aim to improve their record in the Asian and Sub-continent conditions. The Blackcaps have won just 16 red ball games in the Asian and Sub-continent conditions as of now.

India Vs New Zealand: Ross Taylor Was The Last Batter From New Zealand To Smash A Test Century In India In 2012

The last time New Zealand had toured India to play a red ball series was in 2021. It was a two-match series in India and no batter from the Kiwis could reach the three-figure mark. Before 2021, it was in 2016 that New Zealand had played a test match series on Indian soil and in that series as well, not a single batsman from New Zealand could reach a score of a hundred or more.

2012 was the last time when a batsman from New Zealand scored a Test Ton in India. The Kiwis toured India for a two-match series each in the red ball form of the game and the shortest format. India won the series of the two Test matches and New Zealand won the T20I series after the 1st twenty-over match was abandoned due to the rains in Vishakhapatnam.

The test matches of the 2012 series were played at Hyderabad and Bengaluru while the last match of New Zealand’s tour of India in 2012 was a T20I affair which the Blackcaps won by just a run at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ross Taylor and MS Dhoni were the captains of India and New Zealand respectively.

In 2012, Ross Taylor was the last batter to smash a century in the Test matches for the Kiwis in and against India. The skipper of New Zealand of that series, Ross Taylor led his team from the front in the 1st innings of the second and the last test match, which was played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

New Zealand reached 385 runs in their 1st innings of that second test match. The visitors reached that score mainly because of a 113-run knock played by the skipper of that series, Ross Taylor. New Zealand’s former skipper was a tailor-made batter in crunch situations.

Ross was also the second-highest run-scorer in the second innings of the second Test match and he also scored the most runs for the Kiwis in that red-ball series. Overall, Ross Taylor was the fourth-highest run-getter in that series with 157 runs from two matches and four innings. But the Kiwis still lost that match by five wickets.
